Fire-types have been a staple of the Pokémon franchise since the beginning, and their presence and prominence in the story of Pokémon: Sword & Shield keeps this popularity going. While Fire-type Pokémon play an important role in Galar, there is only a small number of them in the region's Pokédex. This is applicable for the base game of Sword & Shield as well as the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLC.

The Fire-types that are a part of this limited selection, however, can be important members of a gamer's team. These Pokémon include those that appear as random wild and overworld spawns, which can be encountered multiple times, as well as special overworld encounters that occur less frequently. Although the habitat information of special overworld encounters cannot be found in the Pokédex, it is available on Serebii.net for players to fully understand how to use these pocket monsters in these rare encounters. While the presence of Fire-types is not abundant, there are several areas in the Galar region where players can find and capture some powerful Pokémon of this type.

Giant's Foot

In a hidden area of the Crown Tundra called Giant's Foot, Sizzlipede and Centiskorch appear during Clear and Sunny weather, while Magby and Magmar only appear during Sunny weather. Both evolution families are useful, especially the final evolution of Magby and Magmortar. This Pokémon has access to some of the most powerful Fire moves in the game, making it extremely valuable. Securing one of these powerful Fire-type Pokémon can be incredibly valuable during a playthrough, so players with the DLC can benefit greatly from finding these Pokémon in Giant's Foot.

Ballimere Lake

Ballimere Lake is one of the two southernmost areas in the Crown Tundra alongside Dyna Tree Hill. While this limits the lake's accessibility during early exploration in the Crown Tundra, once players reach Dyna Tree Hill, they can fly there when they wish.

During Sunny weather, Pokémon like Carkol, Magby, and Magmar can be consistently found in this area. The special overworld encounters here include Coalossal during the Clear, Thunderstorming, Snowing, Sunny, and Foggy weather conditions, as well as Magmortar during Sunny weather. Ballimere Lake is a large area, so players can branch out to more than just the same couple of patches of grass to find a Fire-type they want. This makes the experience less tedious and more enjoyable for all players.

Giant's Bed & Old Cemetery

Giant's Bed and Old Cemetery are located directly adjacent to each other in the Crown Tundra. They also contain most of the same Fire-type spawns. The main difference is that Giant's Bed contains more special overworld encounters than Old Cemetery because Giant's Bed is a larger area. The consistent spawns available in both areas during Sunny weather include Heatmor, Magby, and Magmar. In Cloudy and Foggy weather, Lampent can be found in both areas.

While Old Cemetery does not include any additional Fire-type Pokémon through special overworld encounters, Giant's Bed contains several of these special pocket monsters. These include Magmortar, which is available during Sunny weather; Flareon, which is also available during Sunny weather; and Chandelure, which is available during the Cloudy and Foggy weather conditions. Chandelure in particular is one of the most underrated Ghost-types in the game and can be a valuable addition to a player's team.

Giant's Mirror

An early section in the second part of the Wild Area, Giant's Mirror is home to many Pokémon for players to catch. When the weather is Sunny, Pokémon like Growlithe, Torkoal, and Heatmor will spawn. Players should remember that these Pokémon require this specific weather condition to appear.

These Pokémon are all quite strong, and they are especially useful at the point in the game when players first encounter them in Giant's Mirror. This is because they are reasonably high-leveled and provide resistance to Opal's Fairy-type team in an eventual battle in Ballonlea.

Lake of Outrage

A fairly late-game portion of the Wild Area, this section features many powerful Pokémon that have high levels. In the Sunny weather condition, players can encounter Coalossal, Lampent, and Heatmor in both versions of the game. In addition to these, Sword players can find Ninetales and Turtonator, while Shield players can find Arcanine.

Of these options, one of the most useful is Coalossal, which not only has one of the best designed Gigantamax forms in the game but also is altogether very strong. During Sunny weather, players can also encounter Flareon and Chandelure as special overworld encounters. These Pokémon can all be incredibly useful, especially if caught before players depart for Route 10, which is filled with Ice-type Pokémon.

Three-Point Pass

As the location of the Split-Decision Ruins, Three-Point Pass is one of the last new locations players visit when exploring the Crown Tundra. The consistent Fire-type spawns there include Heatmor, Magby, and Magmar, all of which spawn in Sunny weather. As a result, many players will have already caught these Pokémon by the time they enter Three-Point Pass. However, if players have holes in their teams that should be filled by a Fire-type, this area has viable options that can aid the player as they progress in the game.
