As the eighth most common Pokémon type, Poison-type Pokémon are not necessarily hard to find in any of the games. In Pokémon Sword & Shield, about 7% of the 400 Pokémon available in the game are Poison-type, which means it is not difficult to be a Poison-type trainer.

Even with the options available, however, the numerous locations in Pokémon Sword & Shield can still make the search difficult. For trainers who want a Poison-type team, love Poison-type Pokémon, or just want to fill out the Pokédex, visit these locations to find the best Poison-types.

Route 3

Route 3, which is the route that connects Motostoke and Galar Mine, is one of the earlier areas in the game. Because of this, Route 3 is a good location for some pre-evolved Pokémon. One of the Poison-type Pokémon players can visibly encounter in this area is Stunky, who is a Poison/Dark dual type that was introduced in Generation IV. Stunky has a 10% chance of appearing and can evolve into Skuntank at level 34.

Another possible visible encounter in this area is the Poison-type Trubbish, who has a small chance of appearing in the grass. Originally from Generation V, Trubbish can evolve into Garbodor at level 36.

Giant's Cap

Within the northern part of the Wild Area, the Giant's Cap is a location that lies between Hammerlocke Hills and Stony Wilderness. If the player has Pokémon Shield, then this area is especially good for obtaining Poison-type Pokémon because Croagunk is a possible visible encounter. Croagunk is a Poison/Fighting dual-type from Generation IV that evolves into Toxicroak. In Pokémon Shield, Croagunk has a 5% chance of appearing when it's clear and a 35% chance when it's cloudy.

Even if the player does not have Pokémon Shield, there are other great Poison-types in this area. During clear weather, Stunky once again has a 10% chance of appearing. But, the most significant Pokémon in this area is Gengar, who is a Ghost/Poison dual-type from Generation I and the final form of Gastly. Gengar wanders around the area during most weather conditions, and if the player does not want to deal with trading, catching one here is the best option.

Giant's Mirror

Also located in the northern part of the Wild Area, the Giant's Mirror is a small pond that has plenty of Poison-types that trainers should catch. During all kinds of weather, the player has a relatively high chance of finding Koffing, who is a Generation I Poison-type. Another possible random encounter is the Poison/Bug dual-type Skorupi. Budew, who is a Grass/Poison dual type, is also a random encounter along with Budew's evolved form, Roselia. If the player is fishing, they have a 35% chance of catching Mareanie, who is a Poison/Water dual type.

Gloom, who is a Grass/Poison dual type, is also a visible encounter in this area. If the player does not want to bother evolving Gloom with the leaf stone, then Vileplume is a wanderer here as well.

Dusty Bowl

Another northern location in the Wild Area that has some good Poison-types is the Dusty Bowl. If the player does not want to evolve a Stunky or cannot find one, this location is the perfect place to find Skuntank. Along with being a wanderer in this area, Skuntank also has a 40% chance of randomly appearing when it's cloudy.

Meanwhile, Roselia has a 10% chance of being randomly encountered while it's cloudy, and Koffing can be found while it's clear or raining. In Pokémon Shield, Croagunk has a 15% chance of being visibly encountered when it's clear and a 60% chance when it's cloudy.

Motostoke Outskirts

As the connecting area between Galar Mine No. 2 and Motostoke, Motostoke Outskirts has a couple of Poison-types to pick from if the player has Pokémon Shield. The Poison/Fire dual-type from Generation VII, Salandit, has a 5% chance of being visibly encountered in this area in Pokémon Shield. Croagunk also has a 35% chance of appearing here.

While this area is definitely better in Pokémon Shield, players in both versions can still visit this area to get Koffing, who has a 15% chance of being a visible encounter.

East Lake Axewell

Within the southern part of the Wild Area, East Lake Axewell has some great Poison-types. Oddish, who is a Grass/Poison dual type and the pre-evolved version of Gloom, has a high chance of being a random or visible encounter at this location. Also, Garbodor is a wanderer in this area.

Normally, Koffing evolves into another Poison-type, Weezing. But, in the Galar region, Koffing evolves into Galarian Weezing. This Poison-Fairy dual-type can be found wandering this area along with Garbodor.

Motostoke Riverbank

Another significant location for Poison-types in the Wild Area is Motostoke Riverbank, which connects Bridge Field and North Lake Miloch. One main positive of this area is that Drapion, a Poison/Dark dual type and the evolved form of Skorupi, is one of the wanderers. Skorupi also has a high chance of being encountered here.

While the player can once again fish for Mareanie at this location, the Pokémon also has a 25% chance of being visibly encountered during thunderstorms. Koffing has a 40% chance of appearing when it is cloudy, and, if the player has Pokémon Shield, Salandit has a 25% chance of appearing in harsh sunlight.

Bridge Field

Nearby Motostoke Riverbank is another area for certain Poison-types in the Wild Area, Bridge Field. Pokémon Shield players can once again obtain Croagunk from this area if the weather is cloudy or if there is a sandstorm. For both versions, players can find Garbodor and Drapion wandering around this area. If the trainer does not want to evolve their Trubbish or Skorupi, this is a perfect location to visit to get these Pokémon.

Bridge Field is also one of the locations where the player can obtain the Water/Poison dual-type Qwilfish. If the player is fishing, they have a 10% chance of catching it. Also, while surfing with the Rotom Bike, the player has a high chance of encountering a Qwilfish during any weather.

Lake of Outrage

Returning to the northern section of the Wild Area, the Lake of Outrage has several Poison-type Pokémon for trainers to catch. On cloudy days, Skuntank has about a 30% chance of being a random encounter. The player can also fish for Qwilfish at this location.

The best part about this area, however, is the high level of visible encounters. During cloudy weather, the player has a 13% chance of encountering a Galarian Weezing, a 30% chance of encountering a Garbodor, and a 24% chance of encountering a Drapion.

Challenge Road

As part of the Isle of Armor expansion, Challenge Road has some beloved Poison-types around the Tower of Darkness. Salandit finally has a 16% chance to appear in either version of the game. But, Toxicroak, a dual-type Poison/Fighting Pokémon, is a wanderer in this area that is only available if the player has Pokémon Shield.

Regardless of the version, however, Salazzle is also a wanderer here. Since Salazzle can only evolve from a female Salandit, it may be easier for the player to get it here rather than trying to get a female Salandit.
