The new Pokémon games, Scarlet and Violet, will be released on November 22nd for the Nintendo Switch. This will mark the second installment of the main series games on the platform.

A brand new region and game coming means more alternate regional forms for classic pokémon. There are a variety of pokémon to expect, but starter pokemon are less often seen to get regional forms. That being said, Pokémon Legends: Arceus saw the reenvisioning of three starter pokémon so there's a distinct possibility that Scarlet and Violet will add to this roster and introduce players to new regional forms of other starter pokémon.

Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur

Pokémon GO Community Day Bulbasaur

Bulbasaur is the first Grass-type Pokémon to appear in the games and is actually the first pokémon listed on the pokédex of the Kanto region. While this pokémon and its evolutions aren't quite as popular as Charizard or Blastoise it still is a well-loved pokémon.

From the get-go, Venusaur and its previous evolutions are all Grass/Poison-types. The type each pokemon represents should remain the same based on Arceus. While it's difficult to imagine Venusaur without poison, it may feature something similar such as Bug-type. Venusaur is an iconic pokémon, so whatever it gets it will hopefully be memorable in a great way.

Chimchar/Monferno/Infernape

Pokémon Legends: Arceus - How To Find (& Catch) Chimchar

Chimchar is a Fire-type pokémon and one of the three starters for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, as well as Platinum. The inspiration for its final evolution, Infernape largely draws inspiration from the main character of Journey to the West, Sun Wukong who possessed a vast amount of abilities.

Knowing Infernape's inspiration the possibilities are quite endless. While Fighting was a perfect type for it to have alongside Fire, mostly anything could work. One fitting idea would for Infernape to have the Flying-type and ride on a cloud like Sun Wukong. Another is to make it Steel, giving Infernape a staff much like Sun's own.

Squirtle/Wartortle/Blastoise

One of the best starter pokémon, Squirtle is the first Water-type starter pokémon in the games with its second evolution Blastoise being nearly as iconic as Charizard. Which is no surprise when the first two Pokémon games that came to the U.S. were Pokémon Red and Blue which featured Charizard and Blastoise on them respectively.

While Blastoise has only ever been a Water-type pokémon, Steel would be a perfect fit for the pokémon. Blastoise has always been well known for its high defense, so there's no better way to complement this idea than to give it one of the toughest types in the game. Part of its design already contains steel too with the classic cannons protruding from its shell.

Treecko/Grovyle/Sceptile

Treecko ready for battle in Pokemon

Treecko is the Grass-type starter pokémon for Gen 3. Treecko and its forms are based on tree frogs which are generally poisonous or possess some degree of poison, though it usually isn't harmful to humans and only other animals.

While Treecko and its evolutions are all Grass-type, interesting enough Sceptile's mega evolution happens to be Dragon-type as well. Given this dual-type has been done already for the pokémon it's unlikely they will repeat this for its alternate regional form. However, due to the influence of tree frogs and their poison, Poison-type would be a perfect fit for the pokémon.

Litten/Torracat/Incineroar

Pokemon Why Litten Is A Cute Starter But Also Really Gross Pokedex Entry

Litten is the Fire-type starter pokémon for the Pokémon Sun and Moon games. Its last evolution, Incineroar is famous for being part of the Super Smash Bros. roster, a rarity for any pokemon. Most of its movements in that game are centered around hand-to-hand combat and fire.

While Incineroar does know a vast amount of Fighting-type moves, it isn't actually Fighting-type. Its secondary type is Dark, which can be easy to forget. While an alternate regional form could use something entirely different for the pokémon that isn't related, the best fit would be Fighting. This would maximize Incineroar's abilities and fit its overall character better.

Froakie/Frogadier/Greninja

Every Pokemon Water Starter Ranked Worst To Best Froakie

Froakie is the Water-type starter pokémon for Sun and Moon and much like Incineroar, its last evolution, Greninja happens to be a fighter in Super Smash Bros. Greninja is one of the most popular pokémon in the franchise now being one of the best blue pokémon and even appearing in the Detective Pikachu film.

Greninja also has inspirations from tree frogs like Treecko and its evolutions. This pokémon is also well-known for being able to use and learn various poison abilities, but it is not a Poison-type. While this could be a good opportunity for its regional alternate form, another would be Steel-type. Greninja's most iconic attacks involve it throwing water-conjured shurikens. So swapping them out with real ones would be a neat twist for the pokémon.

Torchic/Combusken/Blaziken

Torchic Pokemon

Torchic is the first evolution of one of the best Fire-type pokémon, Blaziken, and the starter for Pokémon Sapphire and Ruby, as well as Emerald. This fire bird has been around for quite a while and fans of the anime will recognize Torchic and its evolutions as May's signature pokémon.

While Blaziken possessed a Fire/Fighting-type many fans may have suspected Torchic would eventually become a Flying-type pokémon due to being a fire bird. While this was not the case, that doesn't mean this couldn't be used for a future idea in the form of a different region. This would alter Blaziken's design a bit by giving it wings but it would be getting a bit of a makeover already anyway.

Piplup/Prinplup/Empoleon

Every Pokemon Water Starter Ranked Worst To Best Piplup

Piplup, one of the best Water-type starter pokémon is the starter for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, as well as Platinum. This joyous little penguin pokemon was always at Dawn's side in the Pokémon anime always remaining in this form.

The final evolution of Piplup is Empoleon which featured a cool dual-type for a starter pokémon which was Water/Steel. What feels perfect for an Empoleon alternate regional form is Dark or even Ice. The latter is obvious as the pokémon is clearly based on a penguin, but the Dark could work thanks to the Hisuian Samurott which possessed Water/Dark.

Chikorita/Bayleaf/Meganium

Chikorita leaps in the air in the Pokemon anime.

Chikorita is the Grass-type starter pokémon for Pokémon Silver and Gold, as well as Crystal. As it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, Chikorita and its evolutions were influenced by the dinosaurs known as sauropods. This is of course what a brachiosaurus is.

Meganium, Chikorita's final evolution, has the possibility to possess multiple different types for its alternate regional form. The most obvious type to give to a Grass-type, especially the starters, is Poison. However, the Hisuian regional form of Decidueye ended up being a Fighting-type alongside its Grass-type while previously being Grass/Ghost. This leaves most possibilities open for Meganium.

Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard

Charmander smiles in the Pokémon anime

Charmander is a Fire-type starter from the first Pokémon games--Red, Blue, and Yellow. It and its evolutions have also recurringly been the most popular pokémon for some time now so it's likely in the near future that Charizard receives an alternate regional form.

Charizard already possesses a form where it obtains the Dragon-type, thanks to Mega evolution. So with Charizard already having a Dragon-type fans could get something entirely different like Electric, which would be a deadly combination alongside its flames. Or it could go down the route of Moltres or Typhlosion with a Dark or Ghost-type.
