The latest gameplay trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has revealed new information about the games, which included an update to the official Pokémon website that has outlined the first version exclusive Pokémon in the games. The Pokémon series has featured version exclusives since day one and the fans hoping for the mechanic to be scrapped will be disappointed to see that it's still part of the series in Scarlet and Violet. This is despite the fact that online trading makes it trivial to acquire the version exclusives in the modern Pokémon games.

The first three Pokémon revealed for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were the starter Pokémon: Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. This was all the information revealed about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for several months, until the June 2022 trailer was released, revealing the identity of the two Legendary Pokémon, Koraidon and Miraidon, as well as some miscellaneous Pokémon, including Lechonk. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will also feature returning Pokémon from older games, though the exact number in the Paldea Pokédex has yet to be revealed.

The latest Pokémon Presents for Scarlet and Violet featured a lot of new information, but some of the finer details were left for updates on the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website. This includes more detailed breakdowns of the new Pokémon, such as revealing that Fidough is a Fairy-type Pokémon and that people use its yeast breath to make food. The website also revealed some of the version exclusives in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Scarlet & Violet's First Version Exclusive Pokémon

Scarlet and Violet's first version exclusive Pokémon were revealed by the games' official website.

It's assumed that the Legendary Pokémon on Scarlet and Violet's box art will be version exclusives, as that has often been the case in the past. If this assumption is true, then Koraidon is a Pokémon Scarlet exclusive and Miraidon is a Pokémon Violet exclusive. The official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website has confirmed that Larvitar and Stonjourner are Pokémon Scarlet exclusives, and Bagon and Eiscune are Pokémon Violet exclusives. It's likely that the evolutions for these Pokémon are also version exclusives as well.

These Pokémon are unlikely to be the only version exclusives in Scarlet and Violet and fans probably won't know the full list until the game comes out, or if the information leaks beforehand. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have a much greater focus on multiplayer than the Pokémon games in the past, so players shouldn't have too much of a problem acquiring the version exclusives they're missing. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are bringing rideable Legendaries and doing other new things for the series, but it seems dumping the version exclusives is just a step too far.
