Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s newest update may be deleting save files, according to some users’ reports. The software update 1.2.0 for the popular Nintendo Switch games was issued on February 27. It brought in new features, such as online competitions in Battle Stadium, as well as a connection to the mobile game Pokémon GO. The patch also featured bug fixes for Tera Raids, Battles, and overall performance issues across the whole map.

However, amidst these bug corrections, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s update is allegedly deleting save files. As reported by Kotaku, multiple Reddit users are claiming that their save files were corrupted and lost after connecting Scarlet and Violet with Pokémon GO. The actual reason these save files may have been lost is still unknown.

Other users have reported they have not made such a connection, and some say their problem came after downloading the available content from the DLC pre-order. The Reddit user, Matthewcbayer, has been editing their post on the platform with updates regarding the situation and questions to ascertain the origin of the bug.

Players Should Avoid Connecting Pokémon Scarlet & Violet To GO For Now

They even suggest that recovering the backup save file is not possible since the game does not boot the home screen. For now, the ultimate solution seems to be avoiding making any sort of connection between Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon GO. In fact, making use of the game’s new features may be the way to go to avoid losing save files because of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet 1.2.0 update. Reports indicate that even downloading the pre-order bonuses made available with the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLCs may trigger the save corruption, so it may be wise to avoid it for now since the actual reason is unknown.

The Pokémon Company has not released an official statement on the case of possible deleted save files due to the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet update. A user on Reddit, in response to Matthewcbayer’s post, said that they contacted Nintendo support. According to timbuckfool, the company said that it is “looking into it”, but finished the support conversation with the customer under the allegation that the issue was resolved. Another Reddit user, connortyson, said that the Nintendo support conversation also led to no results. However, they do state that the support suggested transferring their Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet to HOME once the compatibility is up.

The real issue is if the storage service will be able to read the corrupted save files after the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet update. Unfortunately, there seems to be no end in sight for the alleged problem with save files, as Nintendo has not even publicly talked about the issue. Since the source of the problem is unknown, players should postpone the connection between the Switch games and Pokémon GO and even the purchase of the DLC. For now, this seems like the best way for players to avoid losing their saves and their respective collections of creatures, many of which include multiple Shinies in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
