August 3's Pokémon Presents revealed a lot of new details about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and one of the biggest was the new special Pokémon effect called Terastallizing. Terastallizing will be Scarlet and Violet's version of the previous Gigantimaxing and Mega Evolutions from past games, but the Pokémon will have a crystallized look. Terastallizing will be possible with all of the Pokémon in the game but can only be used during a battle.

In order to Terastallize, players will need a charged Tera Orb. It is yet unknown when and how players will obtain a Tera Orb, but it seems that they can be charged via shining crystals found throughout the region or at Pokémon Centers. Players who preorder Scarlet and Violet will receive a mystery gift that is Tera-related as well. Tera Orbs can only be used once per battle in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and gives Pokémon special powers depending on their Tera Type.

Individual Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will all have different Tera Types that will differ from Pokémon to Pokémon, and some of these types have been revealed in the latest Pokémon Presents. Terastallizing will give players opportunities to see Pokémon in different type-forms that have never been seen before. With individual Pokémon all having different Tera Types, and some being rare, catching as many Pokémon as possible, or not, will be even more important in this game.

Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Offers 18 New Tera Types To Pokémon

Pokemon Scarlet Violet Tera Eevee

According to Pokemon.com, there are 18 Tera Types in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and it can be assumed that these Tera Types match up with the regular Pokémon types. The following types can be seen during Pokémon Presents: Grass, represented by a bouquet crown; Flying, represented by a crown of balloons; Fire, represented by a crown of lit candles; Water, represented by a fountain crown; and Normal, represented by a large diamond crown. It has not yet been confirmed if the other Tera Types match the Pokémon types and how they will be represented.

Players will be able to find Pokémon with rare Tera Types in the new raid battles in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. These raid battles will be similar to raids from Pokémon Sword and Shield, with some changes made pertaining to the timing. How common these raids are and how often they will contain rare Tera Types is still not known.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is changing the way Pokémon are typed by adding the new Tera Typing, leading to countless combinations of Pokémon types. Players will now have another form of Pokémon to collect, along with shiny Pokémon and others, by looking for Pokémon with rare Tera Types. Whether there are any limitations to the combinations of Tera Types and Pokémon is yet to be seen, but players will find out on November 18.
