A new trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has revealed two Pokémon Professors for the Generation 9 region, and both appear to have widely different research areas according to their designs and descriptions. Pokémon Professors play an important role in each Pokémon game. They offer guidance to players as they get started on their journeys, provide the region's Pokédex to help bolster research, and act as a point of reference for different challenges throughout the games' stories. However, Pokémon regions typically only have one Professor, making the inclusion of two in Scarlet and Violet an interesting reveal.

Currently, little is known about the towns, Gym Leaders, and battle mechanics for Scarlet and Violet. However, information revealed in the first trailer has confirmed the new Gen 9 region will be open-world, and that the new starters for Scarlet and Violet will follow past themes, with a Grass-type, Fire-type, and Water-type option for players to choose between. It also appears plenty of Pokémon species from past Gens will be included, though the size of the Pokédex has yet to be confirmed by Nintendo or Game Freak. Unfortunately, it is likely the full National Pokédex won't be available in Scarlet and Violet, as the list could exceed over 1000 species once the new Gen 9 Pokédex has been revealed.

While much of Gen 9's region is still a mystery, a new trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet did offer a look at some NPCs players will meet during their journeys. This includes two regional Professors, each with a specific look and theme that could give clues about the overall narrative for Scarlet and Violet. Professor Sada will be the Professor of Pokémon Scarlet and has a design that seems to be based on prehistoric styles. Her lab coat is fringed with fur at the collar and her accessories all appear to be colored beads and pieces of bone. Professor Turo will be the Professor of Pokémon Violet and possesses an aesthetic similar to a spacesuit.

Additionally, the appearances of each Pokémon Professor match the Legendary Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, which were also revealed in the new trailer. Koraidon is the Legendary mascot of Pokémon Scarlet, and like Professor Sada, it has a prehistoric appearance with a mixture of red and blue color points and a severe expression. Miraidon is the Legendary mascot of Violet and mimics Professor Turo's futuristic design and color scheme. Both Legendary Pokémon appear similar to the Ultra Beasts seen in Pokémon Sun and Moon and have a reptilian base design that implies they could be Dragon-type hybrids similar to many other past mascot Legendaries. The second trailer can be viewed below:

Unfortunately, outside of knowing that each Professor is version exclusive, little else has been revealed about their areas of study or particular personality traits. However, with the Scarlet and Violet's release date officially confirmed for November 18, 2022, it is likely more information will be coming alongside new trailers and teasers in the coming months. While the decision between versions has always been a difficult task for players, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's version exclusive Pokémon Professors could add a new layer of challenge when choosing which game to play first, and hopefully, both Sada and Turo will have rich and exciting stories for players to explore.
