Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s next 7-Star Tera Raid has been announced, but the featured Pokémon has been kept a secret from the players. Because of this, many fans started to speculate which creatures can be brought into the Generation 9 games that are not currently available. Previously, Nintendo brought Charizard through a limited-time Dragon Tera raid event, as well as a Fighting Tera type Cinderace. Each of the Pokémon had two running periods.

Now, the only information players have about the next 7-Star Tera Raid in Scarlet and Violet is that the featured Pokémon has a Poison Tera type. Unfortunately, this does not tell much, as any Pokémon can have a Tera type that is an alternative to their original building. In fact, both of the previous raids followed this. Charizard had a Dragon Tera type, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Cinderace Tera Raid brought forth a Fighting Tera type creature - neither of them have their equivalent Tera types in their regular typing. With the new Poison Tera type Raid, the only expectation is that the featured Pokémon knows a strong Poison-type move and, due to the secrecy, players hope it is a fan-favorite.

Venusaur Could Be Scarlet & Violet's Next 7-Star Tera Raid

Venusaur charging an attack during battle in the Pokémon anime.

Following the introduction of Gen 1’s Charizard, the games could finally see Venusaur added to the roster. While it's already a Grass/Poison-type, this could be the first 7-Star Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to have a featured Pokémon with the same type as its Tera type. Some fans, like YouTuber Jake Randall, responded to a comment on Serebii’s announcement post on Twitter claiming that Venusaur is not in the games’ code, and therefore not likely to be the featured Pokémon. Nonetheless, it would be a perfect fit if Nintendo is looking to expand on the popular Pokémon in the franchise by bringing them to Scarlet and Violet.

Venusaur has been around since 1996 and is one of the best Grass-types to have on a team. With a bulky build and a lot of type coverage due to the diverse moves it can learn, it would be a boon for players if it were in the next 7-Star Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The games lack stronger Grass-type Pokémon and, while Wo-Chien, Brute Bonnet, and Meowscarada are good choices, more options are welcome.

Swampert May Come Splashing In The Next 7-Star Tera Raid

Another strong speculation for the next 7-Star Tera Raid in Scarlet and Violet is the Water/Ground-type Swampert. The Pokémon is revered by fans, and it would make sense to have it in the games. While its specialty is not Poison-type, it can learn the powerful Poison-type Sludge Wave move. If that is the case, the Tera Raid boss will likely destroy even the best Fairy-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

In Cinderace’s 7-Star Tera Raids in Scarlet and Violet, players with the overly used Fairy-type Azumarills and Sylveons saw themselves helpless in sight of the Pokémon’s Steel-type Iron Head move. With a Poison Tera-type 7-Star Pokémon, they are likely to not have a chance once again, and players will have to resort to strong Ground-type and Psychic-type Pokémon. If it is, in fact, Swampert, using the bulky Slowbro, as was the case in many of Cinderace’s raids, may be the ultimate solution. Its Psychic-type moves would be super-effective against the Poison Tera type opponent while strongly resisting any of Swampert’s Water-type moves due to its own Water typing.

Hoopa May Be The First Non-Paldean Mythical In Scarlet & Violet

Hoops with its arms outstretched and smirking in the Pokémon anime.

A stretch of a guess is adding Hoopa, a Mythical from outside Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea. It has, however, been a long time since it was featured in a mainline game. Not only that, but it also does not share its typing with the Poison Tera type, which can also be an additional clue. Able to learn Gunk Shot, it could use that as its STAB (Same-type attack bonus) move while making Ground-types the only viable option, due to the amount of Dark- and Ghost-type moves it can learn to counter its Psychic-type weakness. A strategy like this, in fact, sounds exactly like something developer Game Freak would do in the next 7-Star Tera Raid in Scarlet and Violet.

As mentioned before, the frustrating Cinderace Raids in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were tricky for players who went with the obvious Fairy-type to counter its Fighting-type weakness. If players are expecting to use Psychic-types to counter a Hoopa’s Poison Tera type, they might be in for a lot of trouble. Of course, this is assuming that Scarlet and Violet will receive other Generation’s Mythical Pokémon via Tera Raids at the same level as starters’ evolutions, like Charizard. Nonetheless, they are still to be added to the games, as many were with Sword and Shield.

Greninja Is The Most Likely Pokémon For The Next 7-Star Tera Raids

Ash's Greninja from the Pokémon anime flying through the air.

Despite all the mentioned Pocket Monsters, the most likely one to show up in Scarlet and Violet’s next 7-Star Tera Raid is Greninja. The Gen 6 Pokémon is one of the most beloved starter evolutions of all, which would explain all the suspense around the Pokémon’s actual reveal. The strong Water-type isn’t in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but it is, supposedly, in the games’ code, and that would allow it to quickly be patched in. Greninja is also capable of learning Gunk Shot and Toxic Spikes, which would be in sync with its Poison Tera type and its Dark-type moves would easily take down most Psychic-type contenders.

Another reason the Pokémon is being a secret is that, perhaps, this is not an ordinary Greninja, but Ash’s Greninja from the anime. Having the exclusive creature show up in the next 7-Star Tera Raid would also be aligned with the Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series’ final episodes airing in Japan. This would be a superb way of saying goodbye to Ash, the series’ protagonist for nearly 30 years. This would, however, leave Pikachu tossed aside. Nevertheless, Greninja or Ash’s Greninja is the most likely Pokémon to be featured in the next 7-Star Raid in Scarlet and Violet.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Tera Raids have been the central activity in the games after their launch in November 2022. The next 7-Star Tera Raid event in Scarlet and Violet has two running periods: from January 27 through January 30 and then from February 10 through February 13. Players looking to capture the mysterious Poison Tera type creature will have the two distinct periods to obtain only one copy of the Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, though it can be faced multiple times for additional rewards.
