After several months of waiting, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet news may be announced at the upcoming Pokémon variety show next week. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were originally announced on Pokémon Day 2022 via a gameplay trailer showcasing early footage of the new Generation Nine region. Outside of Scarlet and Violet's starter Pokémon, however, little is known about the region, and many are eager to learn more about the next adventure in the Pokémon series.

While recent games like Sword and Shield and Pokémon Legends: Arceus have experimented with mechanics not seen in previous Pokémon games, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet appear to be the big step the series has needed in recent years. It has been announced the games will be set in a fully open-world region and that Pokémon will again be appearing in the overworld as players explore. However, it isn't currently known what battle systems will be like, how the open-world mechanics in Scarlet and Violet will work, or if players will be participating in a Championship Gym Badge system.

However, according to a Twitter post shared by PMDotNet (via NintendoLife), it is possible players will be getting news about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in an upcoming Pokémon variety show. The show, which will air in Japan, is called the PokéDoko 4 and will take place on April 24th, 2022. According to the tweet translating a Japanese description for the show, players will get "The latest information on the Pokémon games!?". Updates for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet could include the name of the region, further details on gameplay, or trailers showcasing what might be expected in the new title.

It is also possible Pokémon Legends: Arceus could get DLC announcements during the Pokémon variety show as well, as the translation indicates multiple "games" will be included. While Pokémon Legends: ArceusDaybreak update gave players new features like Massive Mass Outbreaks, as well as a short post-game story to explore, many have already completed the additional content added. While nothing has been officially announced regarding DLC for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, there has been speculation that paid content could be added in the summer of 2022. Adding DLC could be the perfect way to help extend playability in the newer game until Pokémon Scarlet and Violet releases later this year.

It is also possible Pokémon Sword and Shield could receive a small news announcement during the Pokémon Variety show. Currently, Sword and Shield continue to host the competitive Pokémon scene, as well as remaining popular with fans for the Dynamax Raid battle events that have rotated steadily since the game's release. While the announcement of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet likely means the Generation Eight games will no longer receive any large updates, small events and additions could be the perfect way to help build excitement while players wait for further details on adventures in the new region.
