Pokémon Scarlet & Violet have a whole new way to battle and take advantage of the open-world setting. In recent updates, it was announced that players will be able to ride on the backs of specific Pokémon, namely Cyclizar, Koraidon, and Miraidon. This feature aims to allow for faster and more convenient travel across the larger than ever Paldea region, and is just one of the changes coming to the game.

As fans of the Pokémon franchise are familiar, the main games from the series are linear adventures. Players are set out onto a path and given clear direction on which location they must go to next. Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is aiming to change that by being open-world. Players can even decide how they start and progress their journey by going to the gyms in any order they want. With these changes and more still to come, Scarlet & Violet is promising to be a very ambitious addition to the Pokémon series.

A new update from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet reveals a feature called "Let's Go." It's an Auto Battle mechanic, where players can send their Pokémon off in any direction they choose to automatically gather items and battle other Pokémon without the trainer's input. As stated by IGN, players can watch the battles if they want, or they can wander off in a different direction entirely and continue their adventure. Auto Battle can also be used when the player encounters wild Pokémon out in the field, letting their Pokémon continue the battle automatically while the players take a back seat to watch.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Lets Pokémon Battle on Their Own

Rumors suggest new combat mechanics are coming to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Given that the new Paldea region of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is an open-world game, there will be much more for the player to explore and find than in the rest of the series. Stopping the exploration for every single battle in order to strengthen the player's team could become more tedious in the larger open world space, as opposed to the more linear path Pokémon games are used to. Therefore, having a feature where Pokémon can wander off on their own and get stronger as the player continues their adventure without pause feels like a great step in adapting from linear gameplay to an open world.

The addition of the Let's Go feature is only one of several updates fans have been given recently. Let's Go, along with the ability to travel on the backs of certain Pokémon bikes, may all be part of transitioning players to the new open-world storyline. Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will be available for the Nintendo Switch on November 22, 2022.
