What Gen 9 Leaks Say About Pokémon Scarlet Legendary Koraidon's Typing

Before the major Gen 9 leak in July, the first details about Scarlet and Violet to be leaked early online was actually Koraidon & Miraidon. Way back in May, infamous Pokémon leaker, Riddler Khu, began posting images from Pokémon Masters EX that were teases about the new Pokémon generation. While rumored information like this would normally be taken with a grain of salt, the Riddler account has established itself as the Pokémon series' most credible insider, as they had recently leaked the entire Pokémon Legends: Arceus Hisuian forms lineup months before the game's release. According to the mysterious riddle, the leak claimed that Scarlet and Violet were going to have two Dragon Legendaries. The information was quickly proven true just a month later, when the official Gen 9 trailer in June ended with the reveal that dragon's Koraidon & Miraidon were the Paldea Region's box mascots. With the riddle now confirmed credible, players theorized that Koraidon's typing was Dragon/Fighting, as the leak had also mentioned two Pokémon Types alongside the phrase "Box Legendary".

Pokémon Violet Legendary Miraidon Could Be A Futuristic Typing Counterpart To Miraidon

Following the reveal of Scarlet and Violet's box mascots, many players began to re-examine the infamous Riddler Gen 9 tease. Because the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Legendary leak was real, many players began to believe that Miraidon's Typing is Dragon/Electric, as it was also mentioned in the May Pokémon Masters EX leak. Another reason the theory began to gain popularity, is that Koraidon is made up of scales, and uses its four legs to run. In comparison, Miraidon has a futuristic digital eyeball, a metal body, and uses its jet engines to propel itself forward. From the very beginning of Scarlet and Violet's reveal, there has been heavy themes of the past and future. With Scarlet seeming to represent the past with Koraidon's organic design, the Dragon/Fighting type makes sense. Conversely, Miraidon's robotic design lines up with Riddler's tease of a Dragon/Electric type. Even Scarlet and Violet's Pokémon Professors appear to echo this theory. While Scarlet Professor Sada wears pre-historic clothing, Violet Professor Turo instead has a futuristic bodysuit with digital lights.

Scarlet & Violet Legendary Pokémon Can't Be Battled With For Most Of The Game

The Scarlet and Violet Legendary Typings aren't the only thing to leak about the Gen 9 mascots, as details about how the Pokémon are used in battle were also revealed months back. According to the credible "Kaka" insider leaks in July, players will actually be given Koraidon & Miraidon at the very start of the story. The new mascots will be handed to the player from the Paldea Region Pokémon Professor, so that the protagonist can use them as vehicle mounts to explore the map. Even though the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leak states that players will have the Legendaries in their possession early on, the Pokémon will reportedly not be usable in battle for the majority of the Gen 9 storyline. In a post re-retweeted by Centro LEAKS, the Kaka insider explained that Koraidon & Miraidon are unable to join the players party until they face off against the final boss in the game. This means that the Legendaries can't be battled with until the Scarlet and Violet's post-game is reached.

If all of this is true, this will be the first time the Game Freak franchise has introduced a Legendary Pokémon that is Dragon/Fighting type, as only the Kommo-o evolution line from Sun and Moon has the dual type combination. The rumored Miraidon Dragon/Electric typing will also be the first time a Legendary has had this combination in over a decade since Zekrom made its debut in the popular Pokémon Black and White Unova Region games, which launched in 2010. While no rumored information should ever be taken as "fact" until they are confirmed, it's very likely that the Paldea Legendary Typings will be Dragon/Fighting and Dragon/Electric, as the Scarlet and Violet leaks have all been true so far.
