Pokémon Scarlet & Violet players can challenge the electric social media influencer, Iono, to a gym rematch after beating the game, but they should expect a much more intense battle the second time around. Since their first match, Gym Leader Iono has leveled up her Electric-type team, added new members, and revamped her battling strategies, making her an opponent fit to rival Paldea's newest Champion. Trainers should prep for the rematch with Iono by curating the right team of monsters and moves to knock out the gym leader's powerful Electric-type Pokémon. With just one weakness, Gym Leader Iono's team will shock players who have not come ready to put up a fight.

Much like Gym Leader Tulip in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Iono is a regional celebrity who is best known for her work as a social media influencer. While players were ecstatic to see the gym leader's reveal nearing the release of the 2022 games, many were let down by her lackluster team in their initial battle at the Levincia Gym. Although the Electric-type specialist's team went underappreciated at its debut, Gym Leader Iono is likely to surprise players who challenge her to a rematch. With a fully evolved team and one additional Electric-type monster, Iono puts on quite a show in her second gym battle with the Paldea region's latest Champion, and she won't go down without a thunderous fight.

Gym Leader Iono's Team, Strategies, and Weaknesses

Gym Leader Iono's Revised Battle Strategy

Players likely associate Gym leader Iono with her lovable Electric-type monster, Bellibolt, which is one of the catchable Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet's East Province. While a fan-favorite, Bellibolt does not pose as much of a challenge as the gym leader's remaining team members, Kilowattrel, Electrode, Luxray, and Mismagius.

Altogether, Iono's team is truly tough with very few weaknesses and two team members who boast an immunity to otherwise super-effective Ground-type moves. Since Kilowattrel is an Electric/Flying-type monster and her Mismagius has the Levitate ability, Ground-type moves will miss these Pokémon entirely, and players will need to rely on other effective moves and strategies to knock them out.

How to Beat Gym Leader Iono Again

Iono's Kilowattrel

Unfortunately, trainers won't be able to rely entirely on super-effective Ground-type moves to sweep Gym Leader Iono's team of Electric-type Pokémon. Instead, they should implement a combination of strong moves and strategies using monsters who can withstand Electric-type attacks, as demonstrated by YouTuber Psynergy. While trainers have access to a long list of excellent Ground-types in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, some of the strongest, such as Garchomp, may not survive Mismagius' Dazzling Gleam, making them less viable partners in the rematch against Gym Leader Iono.

Several excellent alternatives for battling Iono's Kilowattrel and Mismagius include Gastrodon, Clodsire, and Lycanroc, since each monster has access to both Ground- and Rock-type moves in addition to resisting either Electric-type moves or Mismagius' Mystical Fire.

Apart from maintaining type advantages, trainers may also find it helpful to battle using a mix of both physical and special attacks as well as status moves to combat Luxray's Intimidate ability and Mismagius' high special defense stat. In this battle, one of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's silliest evolutions, like the bulky Ground/Poison-type, Clodsire, would make a fantastic wall with access to moves like Yawn and Toxic.

While it is not particularly offensive, Clodsire is able to withstand any attack used by Iono's team, resisting Electric-type moves entirely. With the Water Absorb ability, Clodsire can also eat Bellibolt's Water Pulse attack, regaining its HP while slowly but surely leading players to victory by draining the health of Gym Leader Iono's team with a Toxic set-up in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
