Fidough, wordplay on the dog name Fido and bread dough, is a new Pokémon being introduced on Paldea in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s 9th Generation. Described as having smooth and elastic skin, Fidough has been kept by cooks in Paldea because its breath contains yeast. Fidough can be found in two locations, one of them accessible very early game.
Fidough is categorized as a Puppy Pokémon, like Growlithe from the beloved original 151 Pokémon lineup. Fidough is the fifth puppy Pokémon to be introduced following Lillipup, Rockruff, and Yampers from generations, 5, 7, and respectively. However, Fidough is unique in that it is a pure Fairy-type Pokémon, which, according to Bulbapedia, is in a tie with Ghost-types as being the second-rarest Pokémon type behind Ice-types. It is not a version-exclusive Pokémon, like Koraidon and Miraidon, and is catchable in both Scarlet and Violet. Fidough spawns below Los Platos and later in South Province Area 2, but catching it early game is a better strategic move than catching it later.
How to Find Fidough Early Game
The first Pokémon Scarlet and Violet area players need to visit to catch Fidough is close to Los Platos. Traveling to Los Platos is required in the tutorial segment, Prologue, The First Day of School, so players will be passing through Fidough’s earlier spawn location regardless. Traveling northwest on the path from The Lighthouse to Los Platos, players will cross a small bridge running over a river. Once past the bridge, a small like will be slightly northwest, and an outdoors Pokémon Center beyond the lake.
Fidough can be found in the long grass surrounding the lake running up north to the Pokémon Center. The second location is in South Province Area 2, west of City of Cortondo. This location has some overlap with Eevee, which continues to be a fan favorite. While looking for Fidough, players might want to stick around and catch Scarlet and Violet's Eevee here too.
It is important to note that Fidough is a fairly rare catch in the early game location. It's also important to note that catching it here is going to be more beneficial and have a much larger impact on creating a strong Pokémon team than if players were to wait until later game location where Fidough is a common find. It may be worth roaming the area and waiting for Fidough to appear. Cortondo's Gym Leader Katy, like the katydid insect, uses Bug-types, and having Fidough will be helpful because its defense is quite high, plus it being a Fairy-type means it will take less damage from Bug, Dark, and Fighting-type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet.
Fidough evolves from a Puppy Pokémon into Dachsbun, a Dog-Pokémon, at level 26. Dachsbun, a play on Dachshund and bread bun, is a pure Fairy-type like Fidough and a useful Pokémon to keep in a lineup for defensive purposes. Although Fidough rarely appears in the earliest location, taking the time to catch it during the beginning of the game will make the first few Pokémon Scarlet and Violet gym battles pass by quicker.
