Fans of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have discovered an interesting and surprising way to lose against the Elite Four. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been out for less than a month, and players have put many hours into the games to see most of what they have to offer. Alongside the open-world concept, players are also given the new challenge of passing midterms and finals at the Academy in Paldea, which are unlocked after earning Gym Badges. As originally reported by Kotaku, players have found a surprising way to fail the Pokémon League interview they are given by Rika. Before being able to beat Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Elite Four, Rika asks players 10 interview questions. Twitter user Mootmonthly asked players if they'd failed the interview, to which many replied that they had. When asked why they are going through the interview, if the player chooses the answer "Just for fun, I guess...", they will immediately be released from the interview. This answer being incorrect came as a surprise to fans who wanted to be honest about why they were playing the game.Related: Nintendo Announces Early Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Update, Surprisingly

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Puts Players' Memories To The Test

A blue haired woman sits in front of a beige background and has her elbows on a blue desk. She is wearing black glasses with a red tip, a white shirt with black overalls, and black gloves. She is saying "I, Rika, will be your interviewer"

Many of the questions in Rika's interview are quite easy to pass, but some questions make sure players remember key details about their battle history. She asks players about their most challenging experience, the name of the gym leader, and what type of Pokémon the gym leader used. If any of the questions are answered incorrectly, Rika will stop the interview and make the player exit the room. Much like the Battle Studies exams in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, players must remember a decent amount of information in order to pass. Of course, the player can return and take the test as many times as needed before they pass, but it can prove to be frustrating for those who just want to move to the battle.

Though many players had no problem passing Rika's interview, some were left wondering why their answers were considered incorrect. By saying they were playing the game for fun, instead of saying they wanted to become the champion, some may have thought that being honest would be the correct answer. Not everyone who plays the Pokémon games sets out to become a champion, after all. Regardless of the games' storyline and progression, some players just want to enjoy the game and have fun.

Scarlet and Violet are Pokémon's lowest-rated games, but that doesn't mean that some players still aren't having fun. In this case, however, those who took arguably the funnest option in the interview ended up being punished. The ability to explore the open world without worrying about gyms is a big draw for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet fans who are just looking to have some fun and casually enjoy their time in-game, which makes it understandable how Rika's interview could prove frustrating.
