Area Zero is perhaps the most mysterious location in all of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Paldea’s Great Crater is home to Paradox Pokémon, the origin of Terastallization, and many secrets. However, there is a great deal of evidence to suggest a hidden Pokémon is lurking in the crater’s depths, and it may well have come from among the stars.

Although the main story of Scarlet and Violet is one of the series’ best to date, observant fans have noted that there are several unanswered questions and plot threads lingering in the background. Because of this, there has been strong speculation that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be receiving DLC in the future. One such detail is the diary entries found scattered throughout Area Zero in the various Research Stations, some of which appear to describe a Pokémon that has yet to be seen in the games.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet May Have A Hidden Legendary

There is a distinct possibility that this mysterious Pokémon is in fact a Legendary Pokémon, and it appears to be the source of Terastallization in the same way that Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Eternatus is responsible for the region’s Dynamax phenomenon. The Professor (Sada or Turo, depending on the game version) describes a Pokémon with some sort of shell, the “interlocking hexagonal plates” of which produce Terasallization energy. As Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s lore suggests that Koraidon and Miraidon are not true Legendary Pokémon, a new Legendary would be a particularly significant revelation, and it seems likely this Pokémon will have Mythical status at the very least.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - Area Zero’s Mysterious Pokémon Is Probably An Alien

Regardless of whether Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s mysterious new Pokémon is an actual Legendary, the question of its origins offers a tantalizing possibility. Although Miss Raifort explains the Great Crater is over a million years old, the exact origins of the formation are something of a mystery. However, one likely explanation for the Great Crater’s existence is a meteor impact. The Pokémon hiding in its depths could have arrived in Paldea with that meteor, making it an alien Pokémon similar to Deoxys. Or perhaps, depending on the strength of its plated shell, it could even be the ‘meteor’ itself, as has been suggested by some fans like Reddit user Eminan.

There is a growing trend in Pokémon which has seen many Legendaries originate from beyond the planet on which the games take place. For example, the draconic Pokémon which eventually split into Unova’s Zerkrom, Reshiram and Kyurem is also said to have arrived on a meteor, while Solgaleo and Lunala of the Alola region are linked to Ultra Space along with the various Ultra Beasts. There is a clear pattern of powerful Pokémon emerging from space or alternate dimensions, one which Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s secret Pokémon appears set to follow.

It seems likely that not only is Area Zero hiding a powerful Pokémon perfect for any future DLC, but that this Pokémon is also an alien entity. It appears to hold a position similar to Eternatus in enabling its region’s iconic battle gimmick, and the level of mystery surrounding it has many fans eager to find out more about it. However, because no information regarding expansions to Scarlet and Violet’s content has been officially announced as yet, it is impossible to say when such details may emerge. Only time will tell if this mysterious Pokémon will be a threat, or as lovable as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s mascots.
