The official Oreo YouTube channel uploaded a sixty-second video to celebrate their collaboration with Pokémon. This marks yet another collectible that fans of the series are sure to swarm to and get their hands on.

Over the last year, collectibles, and Pokémon cards in particular, have risen considerably in value. Some Pokémon cards have been sold at auction for thousands of dollars. Just over a month ago, Oreo hinted at a new partnership with Pokémon on Twitter, showing a picture that had one of their cookies pulsing with electricity. Most everyone was able to figure out the collaboration fairly quickly, but the specifics of what it would mean were not clear until now.

Oreo's video features a surprisingly stunning black and white art style, using the cookies and the filling as the black and white, respectively. This creative style adds to the list of exciting new artistic changes the Pokémon series has tried out recently. In the video, a young trainer chases a Pikachu through the wild, eventually catching the electric mouse Pokémon. The music and the style are very reminiscent of the ever-popular video games and anime series. In the moment of success, the young trainer reveals the Pikachu style cookie, proclaiming there are “only fifteen more to go," challenging trainers to find all sixteen of these limited-edition Pokémon cookies. The sixteen Pokémon designs include long-time classics like Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur as well as more recent additions to the series like Grookey and Rowlet. While the details aren't clear yet, it seems that these cookies will have varying rarity, much like actual Pokémon cards.

When seeing a fresh collaboration like this, it’s hard not to consider the influence that upcoming Pokémon titles may have. The generation four remakes, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, are scheduled for release this November, with Pokémon Legends: Arceus not far behind in January. One of the sixteen included in this cookie collection is Piplup, one of the three starter Pokémon from the original Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl games. Cyndaquil and Rowlet have also made the cut, possibly due to their inclusion as starters in the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

For avid collectors out there this represents a new challenge, but there is a question of whether these cookies will maintain their value as Pokémon cards do, especially with an actual expiration date. The average consumer likely won’t take this challenge to the extreme, but undoubtedly some will. It’s only a matter of time until someone posts a YouTube video of themselves opening this limited edition package of Oreos and jumps for joy when they find a rare Mew cookie.
