Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX brings Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team together into a remake for the Nintendo Switch. These games, originally launched in 2005, established the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series as a randomized dungeon crawler inside a world inhabited by Pokémon with the ability to talk. Players will enter this world of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX as an unevolved Pokémon determined by either a personality test or personal preference.

Long time fans of the Pokémon series and newcomers alike are well aware of the ability for Pokémon to transform physically in a process called evolution. Evolution has been a part of Pokémon games since the very beginning and players will see many evolved Pokémon as they play through Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX. Despite this, players will go through most of the game's story without evolving, wondering if they had done something wrong or just don't know how to do it. Fret not, for in this guide the secrets to unlocking evolution in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX will be explained.

Requirements For Evolving Pokémon in Rescue Team DX

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, players will need to complete the main story before gaining access to the ability to evolve members of their Rescue Team. Only one Pokémon can evolve at a time and that Pokémon must be the team leader. Each Pokémon has to meet certain requirements in order to evolve, reflecting those of the core games. These will either require the Pokémon to be of a certain level or have a specific item to give in the process. Any Pokémon that evolve through special means in the core games were given new methods:

  • Link Cable is required for Pokémon that normally evolve via trading (Example: Kadabra into Alakazam)
  • Beauty Scard is required for Pokémon that normally require max beauty (Example: Feebas into Milotic)
  • Sun Ribbon is required for Pokémon that normally only evolve during the day (Example: Eevee into Espeon)
  • Lunar Ribbon is required for Pokémon that normally only evolve during the evening (Example: Eevee into Umbreon)
  • Evolution items that are still in the game are required for Pokémon that evolve using them (Example: Pikachu into Raichu with Thunder Stone)

Once the player has completed the story, head to the Whiscash Pond above the Pokémon Square. The Pokémon must be alone, so make sure to leave any other team members on stand by. After some dialogue interactions, the player will now be able to send a Pokémon into Luminous Cave to have them evolve. If the Pokémon does not meet the requirements needed, the cave will let the player know what is needed.
