Items are all over the Pokémon world. They are often intended to assist players during battles in one way or another. Certain items are highly sought after, sometimes able to make the difference between winning and losing a close fight. Most trainers use healing items like Potions and Revives during battle, but many items are ignored, even though they can be extremely valuable.

Some items are less impressive than others, only applying in specific situations and to a limited effect. Certain ones, though, can be game-changing, allowing players to feel much more confident in their gameplay. To battle as best as possible, players should consider utilizing items, making their teams as strong as possible.

Expert Belt

Using super-effective moves is a core way to defeating opponents. Sometimes, it may take a few strikes to finish off an enemy, even with super-effective damage. An Expert Belt boosts the strength of these kinds of moves, making them even more useful. If players are under-leveled for a particular stage in their journey, an Expert Belt can help to negate some of the hardships they may face moving forward. To feel confident that a super-effective attack would knock opponents out, players should consider an Expert Belt.

Leftovers

The use of Leftovers helps Pokémon to recover health at the end of every turn. While the amount recovered is not significant each time, the item can make the difference between a creature fainting or staying in for another turn. This is especially useful on Pokémon with high defensive stats, allowing them to recover health on multiple occasions if they stay in the battle. Leftovers are not incredibly useful for all Pokémon, though. Even the best glass cannons in the Pokémon franchise do not benefit greatly from Leftovers because they are often taken out in relatively few turns. However, when used on the right creature, this item can be a game-changer.

Eviolite

An Eviolite is a popular item in the competitive landscape. If a Pokémon can still evolve, the Eviolite increases its Defense and Special Defense. In certain cases, this can make the yet-to-evolve creature more viable than its evolution. This is why many competitive players use it. Often ignored by a large portion of the Pokémon fanbase, the Eviolite is one of the most underrated items in the series. If players want to give themselves a competitive edge, finding an Eviolite would be in their best interest.

Focus Sash

An extremely powerful attack can knock out a player's Pokémon in one hit, bringing the journey to a halt. With a Focus Sash, creatures can withstand one such attack as long as they are at full health when it strikes. The downside is that the item disappears after it is used.

However, a Focus Sash is fairly easy to obtain and can be acquired multiple times in most circumstances. Being able to stay in the battle after a strong hit means that the Pokémon can strike back and potentially do enough damage to win the fight.

Type-Boosting Item

Several items in Pokémon boost the power of specific types. Items like Charcoal, Black Belt, and Mystic Water buff their respective types, which can be extremely useful, especially when a Pokémon specializes in one type. A Pocket Monster that is both a Water-type and holds a Mystic Water gains both a Same Type Attack Bonus and an increase in power from the held item. For instance, Electivire, one of the best evolutions added in a later Pokémon generation, is already extremely capable as an attacker. If it were to hold a Magnet, which boosts Electric moves, it would be nearly unstoppable.

Metronome

The Metronome necessitates the use of an attack more than once, which is its biggest drawback. However, the effect that comes with it is worth the downside. The Metronome powers up moves that are used consecutively, which while limiting, can lead to devastating results if the right move is used. Even if the attack does neutral damage to the opponent, the strength gained from the Metronome can be incredibly high. This can lead to the Pokémon potentially knocking out each enemy with one strike each.

Muscle Band/Wise Glasses

Like Charcoal, Black Belt, and Mystic Water, the Muscle Band and Wise Glasses boost moves of a certain variety. These, however, boost moves based on their category. The Muscle Band buffs Physical moves, while the Wise Glasses boost Special moves. These items have wide-reaching implications for teams.

Although some Pokémon are balanced attackers, others specialize in either Physical or Special moves. This means that if one of these specialists uses their respective item, it gains a significant amount of power to each of its moves.

Quick Claw

Although it does not activate every time, the Quick Claw is a valuable resource nonetheless. It sometimes allows the user to attack first, even if its Speed stat is lower than that of its opponent. Pokémon often lose matchups because they are slower than their foe. With help from a Quick Claw, though, these battles can be more even. It is not a perfect item, as it does not always work. It gives the possibility, though, that a slower Pokémon can outspeed and finish a battle early.

Wide Lens

With the importance of accurate moves, the Wide Lens comes in handy on many occasions. For example, Fire Blast, Heat Wave, and Overheat all have imperfect accuracy, but they are some of the most powerful Fire moves in Pokémon in the series. With a boost to their accuracy, they can be much more consistent, allowing them to deal a massive amount of damage. It can be frustrating to use a strong attack only for it to miss the opponent. With a Wide Lens, trainers can feel more confident that their Pokémon will hit their enemies.

Rocky Helmet

The Rocky Helmet is a stellar tool for dealing damage to opponents without having to attack. It harms enemies that make contact with the Pokémon holding the item. While not every attack makes contact, many of them do. This means that a large number of the attacks that threaten the user have a significant downside. The user also benefits more from the Rocky Helmet if it has high defensive stats. This lets the user take attacks while dealing damage back at the enemy.
