The story of Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes players to the historic Hisui region via time travel, and a sequel could offer a chance to go to the future. The Hisui region, which lays the foundation for the Sinnoh region, gives players a look at the time before trainer journeys and Championship battles of modern Pokémon games. However, the introduction of time travel could open up the possibility for players to go beyond the current main game timeframe and see what the future of the Pokémon world could look like.

From the beginning of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it is established that the main character has come from the future through the power of the Mythical Pokémon Arceus. According to the shirt the main character is wearing, it seems they aren't from the Sinnoh region, but from another location in the timeline of the main Pokémon games. After speaking with Arceus, they are dropped on the beach and guided to safety by Professor Laventon, but it isn't clear if they remember where they came from, and who they were before arriving in Jubilife Village.

Despite being uprooted from their own home and timeline, the main character's goals in Pokémon Legends: Arceus quickly become focused on proving their worth to the Galaxy Team while helping the Diamond and Pearl clans deal with the frenzied Pokémon Lords scattered throughout Hisui. However, after freeing the Lords and battling back Dialga and Palkia, the main character is not invited by Arceus to return home. Instead, they seem to settle in the Hisui region, following requests by the local townsfolk of Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Jubilife Village to help ease the fear surrounding wild Pokémon. However, a sequel could introduce a storyline where in trying to get home, the main character is sent far into the future.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Sequel Could Include Ingo In A Future Adventure

Pokemon Legends Arceus Ingo

A sequel for Pokémon Legends: Arceus could focus on the main character and the Pearl Clan Warden Ingo as they attempt to return to the future they came from. Ingo, who originates from Pokémon Black and White's Unova region, appears to have suffered a similar time-travel experience as the main character. Upon meeting him in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players learn Ingo has lost his memories and has dedicated himself to caring for Sneasler while attempting to recall his origins. Though his memories don't return during the narrative, the main character has several interactions with Ingo in Pokémon Legends: Arceus' main storyline that trigger flashbacks, potentially indicating he could remember in the right circumstances.

Together, the main character and Ingo could team up with other important characters from the first Pokémon Legends: Arceus game, and travel throughout Hisui to gather items needed to reopen a space-time portal home. This portal could be based on the Space-time Distortions that plague the region in the main storyline, allowing players to harness the power and create an opening that returns them to their timeline. Throughout gathering the items needed to do this, the main character could help Ingo remember more about his past, and why he was called to Hisui to help Arceus.

Additionally, Ingo has a twin brother, Emmet, who helped him run Unova's Pokémon Battle Subway in Pokémon Black and White. As Ingo begins to remember who he is, he could connect to Emmett in the future through Arceus. However, in trying to connect with their own timeline, Ingo and the main character could overshoot their desired location and end up going far into the future, giving players a look at the Pokémon world long after the events of any current game in the series.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Sequel Could Reveal Changes To The Future

Pokémon Legends: Arceus sequel set in the future could have many different appearances. Pokémon and their trainers could join a space exploration team that allows them to journey to new planets, are find new Mythical and Legendary Pokémon that can only exist in space. The world itself could also take on a futuristic appearance, with building designs similar to a science fiction setting like Star Trek. The way players catch Pokémon could also be different, with technology advancing past Poké Balls to a new and less cumbersome type of technology. Pokémon could be stored in pea-sized capsules, or even in charms that hang from futuristic storage bracelets.

Additionally, the main character could bring others from the past forward in time, potentially destabilizing the history of the region. If Adaman or Irida were accidentally pulled forward, the future of Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Diamond and Pearl clans could become uncertain, while bringing Professor Laventon to the future could impact the overall development of Pokémon technology. It is also possible members of the Galaxy Team could be brought to the future, only to discover their team eventually become villains, and that their original objectives have been lost over the generations. By altering history, the distant future could become apocalyptic, or even lack Pokémon entirely after fear causes humans to drive Pokémon to extinction.

Additionally, a dystopian future where society has collapsed could create a dark narrative setting for a Pokémon Legends: Arceus sequel. The original Hisui map from the first game could still be used, but instead of a wild landscape, the areas are covered in crumbling cities and broken buildings. Players could wander the overworld with those they brought forward, with the plot of the Pokémon Legends: Arceus sequel focused on returning history-important characters to their correct timeframes. The jump forward could also serve as a warning from Arceus about the importance of the bond between Pokémon and people, reminding each character that existence is tied to the cooperation between all creatures that inhabit the planet.

While players may enjoy returning to the Hisui region for another adventure, it doesn't seem likely a Pokémon Legends: Arceus sequel is going to be announced in the near future. With the recent reveal of the Generation Nine games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, explanations and further stories for Pokémon Legends: Arceus will likely need to be added via DLC expansions. Hopefully, the game will receive more narrative in future content updates, and players will finally get to learn how the fate of the main character, Ingo, and the rest of the Hisui region.
