Arceus Plates can be found all around the Hisui region of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Making its debut as the God of all Pokémon in Diamond and Pearl, Arceus has the power to transform into one of 18 possible types. It is known as the Pokémon that is responsible for creating everything in the known universe. While Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place in the distant past, residents of this time period are learning to understand Pokémon and live alongside them. It's the responsibility of the player to fill up the Pokédex to build on this knowledge of Pokémon. While on this journey, players will begin to collect strange plates that collect in the Key Item pouch.

These are known as the 18 Arceus Plates, and it was possible to find every Arceus plate in Pokémon BDSP by exploring the overworld. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, they are used to transform Arceus into one of these 18 types of Pokémon, giving it its strengths and weaknesses. For example, giving Arceus the Fist Plate will change it into a Fighting-type Pokémon. Not only that, but its signature move, Judgement, will also change into that type. Many of the plates are given to the player as part of the game's story. Although, a handful of plates require players to complete the main story to unlock them.

Trainers will need to have all 18 plates before they can face the game's secret final boss. Each plate has either been given to a Noble Pokémon to protect or is in the hands of one of the region's legendary Pokémon. Since these count as Key Items, they cannot be thrown away or equipped to other Pokémon. These plates will only work while in the presence of Arceus.
