A new trailer for the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Arceus provides further details on several of the game’s features ahead of its launch on the Nintendo Switch later this week, including the special kinds of Pokémon players will come across in the ancient Hisui Region. Serving as a prequel of sorts to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Pokémon Legends: Arceus promises to take the long-running Pokémon franchise in new directions as players explore a colorful landscape on a mission to complete the world’s first PokéDex.
To accomplish that goal, players will encounter new and exciting variants of familiar Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, including a seemingly wooden version of the Poké Ball-like Voltorb and the surprisingly frightening Hisuian Zorou and Zoroark. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, humanity has only just begun to make contact with Pokémon and are still fearful of the various elementally-powered creatures that roam the land - and in return, the Pokémon are mistrusting of any outsiders that come into their territory. Battles in Pokémon Legends: Arceus will unfold in real-time, as wild Pokémon try to attack the player if they get too close while on their journey.
The Pokémon Legends: Arceus Overview Trailer was recently posted to Nintendo's official YouTube channel, and details many aspects of the game just as its January 28 release nears. One of these aspects is Pokémon Legends: Arceus’s Special Pokémon, including rideable ones that players can mount to explore the Hisui region on the back of a deer-like Wyrdeer, swim across bodies of water with the fish-like Basculegion, and fly through the air atop the Hisuian version of Braviary. There are also ancient Noble Pokémon, which are said to be respected among the people of Hisui. However, these great creatures have been corrupted by a mysterious force and will serve as a sort of boss encounter in which players have to calm them by tossing specially made Balms at them until they come to their senses.
The Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer also went over several other features and aspects of the upcoming Nintendo Switch title, such as the peaceful Jubilife Village where players can customize their in-game avatars, purchase supplies for the journey ahead, and even take photos with their captured Pokémon. This village will serve as the main base of operations for Arceus's Galaxy Expedition Team, an organization of Pokémon researchers that provides players with tasks in their mission to complete the PokéDex.
While it may not be the open-world Pokémon title fans were hoping for when Nintendo first announced it last February, Pokémon Legends: Arceus looks to be a fresh and promising take on the time-tested Pokémon formula with plenty of new features and the intriguing backdrop of the ancient Hisui Region. Players will get a chance to jump into this new and exciting world.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be available for Nintendo Switch on January 28th, 2022.
