Darkrai is one of the more popular Mythical Pokémon in the Pokémon franchise, and players can catch the infamous Pitch-Black Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus as part of Request 93, “The Darksome Nightmare.” This Request unlocks after beating the main story of Legends: Arceus if players have a save data from Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl on their Nintendo Switch. However, as a Pokémon BDSP save bonus, Darkrai will be unavailable to players who haven’t logged any time into BDSP on their console.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Request 93 can be picked up from the blackboard in Professor Laventon’s office after the game’s credits roll. Cael of the Pearl Clan will immediately arrive in Galaxy Hall to tell the player more about this special Request. According to legend, a dark nightmare haunts lonely travelers at night, and Cael claims to have spotted this fearsome entity in the Clamberclaw Cliffs area of the Coronet Highlands. Players familiar with Darkrai will know that this Dark-type Pokémon is notorious for filling people’s heads with never-ending nightmares, and they’ll have to investigate the Clamberclaw Cliffs at night to encounter this special Mythical Pokémon.

After resting until nightfall, Pokémon Legends: Arceus players can make their way to the Clamberclaw Cliffs located in the eastern region of the Coronet Highlands. Trainers can reach this area quickly by fast-traveling to the Mountain Camp and following the path immediately to the left until they reach a small hollow at the base of the cliff. Darkrai will show itself once the trainer enters the hollow, but this sinister-looking Pokémon won’t be easily caught.

How To Catch Darkrai In Pokémon Legends: Arceus (Darksome Nightmare Request)

Once the encounter with Darkrai begins in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Pitch-Black Pokémon will immediately begin unleashing powerful energy attacks and teleporting around the hollow, making it difficult to hit it with a Poké Ball. However, a purple shadow will form on the ground just before Darkrai reappears, giving trainers a brief opportunity to land a Poké Ball or send a Pokémon into battle as soon as the Pokémon shows itself. As a pure Dark-type, Darkrai is resistant to Ghost- and Dark-type moves and immune to Psychic-Type, but it’s weak against Fighting-, Bug-, and Fairy-type attacks. Fortunately, since capturing Darkrai is required to complete the Request, the Mythical Pokémon will respawn after trainers return to Jubilife Village if they accidentally knock it out in battle.

Once Pokémon Legends: Arceus players have successfully captured Darkrai, Cael will appear to complete the Request, rewarding players with one Exp. Candy XL. Catching Darkrai will also unlock the Fancy Darkrai Outfit at the Clothier in Jubilife Village. With its strong attack stat and blistering speed, Darkrai can be an incredibly powerful ally as trainers make their way through the postgame of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
