Pokémon fans are shocked by Gengar’s massive size in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus has been highly anticipated ever since its announcement in 2021, and it has been a resounding success so far. Fans everywhere have begun reacting to the various details included in the game.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus makes a lot of new advancements for the series. The game adds a much more expansive world, new battle styles, and plenty of quality-of-life changes to old mechanics. On the day of release, Pokémon Legends: Arceus sales broke retail store records. This isn’t unusual for Pokémon, as Pokémon games tend to sell extremely well in general, but, depending on the exact sales figures, this reception could potentially mean more games like Pokémon Legends: Arceus in the future.

One thing that players have noticed in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is Pokémon size. Twitter user Paradise Central posted a video showing Gengar standing next to the trainer, and the Pokémon appears to be a lot bigger than players expected. Although Pokémon can’t follow the trainer in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, seeing a tall Gengar with its signature grin towering over the trainer can be unsettling enough on its own.

Gengar is one of the most iconic Pokémon in the series, yet is also considered one of the creepiest. Gengar has been featured in multiple spinoff games such as Pokémon Unite and Pokkén Tournament and has even been made into unusual merchandise, such as a plushie with a long tongue. As the first Ghost-type in the series from the first region, Gengar made its mark as one of the first creepy Pokémon that many players were introduced to, a trend that continued through the series with future Ghost Pokémon.

In the Pokémon anime, Gengar is presented as roughly the size of a human, sometimes bigger depending on how tall the trainer is. In that sense, his size in Pokémon Legends: Arceus can be seen as accurate to the anime. Still, seeing a tall Gengar towering over a player firsthand in-game offers a much different perspective than it does in the show. Gengar prior to Pokémon Legends: Arceus hasn’t been quite as big as humans in the overworld and in battle, which is what makes this new size a surprise. But, Pokémon can come in all shapes and sizes, as demonstrated by their realistic proportions in New Pokémon Snap, and this stature can help make Gengar even more threatening than it already is.
