A male and female Hippopotas need to be captured to complete a request in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. After Noble Kleavor is defeated and the quest, "Arezu's Predicament," is started, players can speak to Anthe at the clothing shop in Jubilife Village to receive the quest, "Inspiration from Hippopotas." She's interested in studying Hippopotas because of their differences in appearance depending on their gender. Anthe will ask that one male and one female Hippopotas be captured and brought back to her.

Male and female Hippopotas are exact opposites in appearance. The female Hippopotas is brown with yellow nostrils, eyes, and patterns on its back. With male Hippopotas, the brown and yellow colors are reversed, so it's mostly yellow with some brown features. Although these Pokémon can mostly be found in areas with murky waters, it should still be easy to distinguish between the two.

After the "Inspiration from Hippopotas" request is accepted, players can head to Crimson Mirelands in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The two subregions where Hippopotas can be found are Scarlet Bog and Sludge Mound. The Hippopotas, whether male or female, can be spotted in the muddy waters in either subregion. If players are having trouble finding one of the genders in a particular area, they can travel to the other subregion and look there.

Catching Hippopotas in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Hippopotas are non-hostile, but there will likely be other Pokémon in the area that will attack if they spot the player. There is also an Alpha Hippowdon in Sludge Mound in Crimson Mirelands, so players should bring a strong team with them in case they need to fight. There are usually patches of tall grass for players to crouch and hide in that are in between the pools of water. Sneaking up behind a Hippopotas is the easiest way to catch it, but players can also distract it with food or start a Pokémon battle.

Berries and Apricorns in Pokémon Legends: Arceus can be found on the ground and in trees all around Hisui. When an Apricorn or Berry is thrown near a Pokémon, it will temporarily be distracted and run to eat the food. This makes it easier to catch Pokémon quickly, including the male and female Hippopotas. If players are spotted and still want to catch Hippopotas, they can battle it, drain its health, and then throw a Poké Ball. Hippopotas is a Ground-type Pokémon, so it's weak against Water-, Ice-, and Grass-type moves.

After a female and a male Hippopotas are both captured, players can return to Jubilife Village in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Anthe needs to be spoken to twice because she will take each gender of Hippopotas separately. Once the Pokémon are handed over, a short cutscene will play showing the two Hippopotas side by side. The mission will then be complete, and Anthe will have new clothes available to purchase. Catching the two Hippopotas will reward players with new character customization options in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
