As Trainers explore the vast world of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, they may come across large boulders blocking their path, and the only way to progress along the trail is by breaking the rocks. In past titles, players would usually have to have the Hidden Move "Rock Smash" to advance past rocky obstacles. However, Arceus takes a much simpler approach. To break these obstructive stones in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Trainers, only need to send out a partner Pokémon in their party to do the work.

To throw out a Pokémon, players need to select the Pokémon they would like to break the rocks and press the X button. Then, holding ZR, Trainers can aim near or directly at the boulders and hurl their Pokéball. Whichever Pokémon appears will immediately begin to smash down the stone barrier in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. After a few seconds, Trainers will be able to continue down the path and resume their adventure. As mentioned above, any Pokémon can perform this feat, as Rock Smash is no longer a necessity in Arceus. For more immersion, players could use fitting boulder-breaking Pokémon like Geodude, yet, in conclusion, even a small, cuddly Wurmple could do the job as well.

After smashing through a pile of rocks, Pokémon Legends: Arceus Trainers will obtain crafting materials such as ore and other valuable drops. Similarly, players can break Tumblestones, crystal-like nodes that drop minerals used for making Pokéballs. Trainers will use the same rock-breaking method to farm Tumblestones. Aim at a crystal vein poking out of the ground and throw out Pokémon to acquire its materials. Additionally, players should ensure they have enough inventory space in their satchel when farming items out in the open world of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

A useful Pokémon for multi-use is Wyrdeer, the Mountable Pokémon that Trainers can ride about and cross across ditches and ravines. Like any Pokémon, Wyrdeer can also break rocks and farm Tumblestones, yet, since players can also ride Wyrdeer, it is the most efficient partner for traversing the lands quickly in search of farmable nodes. Therefore, it's recommended for Pokémon Legends: Arceus players to get Wyrdeer first before going on farming expeditions. Consequently, they will be able to save lots of time running around on foot.

The flute to summon Wyrdeer can be acquired during the game's main questline, which means players don't have to go actively searching for it. Instead, they can focus on naturally enjoying quest completion and the main story.
