In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Ghost-Poison type Gengar can be a powerful addition to a team, and players will want to have the best moveset to maximize its potential. Gengar is the third and final evolution in the Ghastly line, as Ghastly evolves into Haunter and Haunter into Gengar. All three Pokémon share a typing, and most of their best moves are within their Ghost-Poison type to benefit from the same type attack bonus.

Players can obtain a wild Ghastly haunting the Crimson Mirelands, specifically near the Golden Lowlands,  Gapejaw Bog, Scarlet Bog, and Shrouded Ruins. This purple Pokémon can also be found in the Coronet Highlands near the Bolderoll Ravine, Sacred Plaza, and Celestica Ruins. Additionally, Ghastly can be caught during a mass outbreak in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Once players obtain a Ghastly, they can evolve it into Haunter once it reaches level 25, and Haunter evolves into Gengar when players use the item Linking Cord. Players can obtain a Linking Cord from the Trading Post in Jubilife Village for 1,000 Merit Points.

To use their Gengar most effectively in battle, players should note that Ghost-type Pokémon are weak to Ghost and Dark-type moves. Meanwhile, Ghost-type attacks are super effective against Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokémon. Additionally, Poison-type moves are super effective against Grass- and Fairy-type Pokémon. However, Poison-type Pokémon are the weakest to Ground- and Psychic-type moves. Therefore, to get the most from the Gengar on their team in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players should use the moves Dark Pulse, Shadow Ball, Hex, and Venoshock.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus - Gengar's Best Moveset

Gengar towers over trainers in Pokémon Legends Arceus

Dark Pulse is a Dark-type move with 100 Accuracy, 80 Power, and 15 PP. Haunter and Gengar can both learn the move, Dark Pulse when they reach level 34, and they will master this skill at level 45. Additionally, Dark Pulse has a slight chance of causing the opposing Pokémon to flinch, which will prevent them from taking their next turn. As a Dark-type move, Dark Pulse is super effective against Ghost and Psychic-type Pokémon.

Furthermore, Shadow Ball is a Ghost-type move with 100 Accuracy, 120 Power, and 15 PP. This move also has a slight chance to lower the Special Defense stat of the opposing Pokémon. Gengar in Pokémon Legends: Arceus will learn Shadow Ball once it reaches level 43, and it will master this move at level 54. Because this is a Ghost-type move, it is most effective against Ghost and Psychic-type Pokémon.

Hex is a Ghost-type move with 100 Accuracy, 97.5 Power, and 10 PP. Gengar can learn Hex as early as level 11 and master the move at level 20. Additionally, Hex's Power is doubled if the target Pokémon has a status condition, such as being poisoned or paralyzed. As a Ghost-type move, Hex is most effective against Ghost and Psychic-type Pokémon.

Finally, Venoshock is a Poison-type move with 100 Accuracy, 95.5 Power, and 10 PP. Venoshock is learned at level 18 and mastered at level 28. With only 10 PP, players should use this move sparingly if they need to complete multiple battles in a row. Furthermore, players can craft in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the item Elixir, to restore depleted PP. Like Hex, Venoshock's Power is doubled if the target Pokémon has a status condition. Because of Venoshocks's typing, this movie is most effective against Grass and Fairy-type Pokémon.
