The latest trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus revealed many new details about the upcoming open-world Pokémon experience. Pokémon Legends: Arceus will take place in Hisui (also known as feudal Sinnoh), and feature new Pokémon and regional forms. In addition, ridable mounts and a new catching system will be making their debut in the series. One of the most significant developments is the reveal of enraged, powerful Pokémon as a new threat to encounter.

Fully evolved Pokémon with red eyes and devastating attacks will appear throughout the Hisui region, posing a serious danger to Trainers and their parties. These creatures appear to be far more aggressive than others throughout the overworld, and there are several sources that may be causing this reaction. Previous games in the Pokémon franchise have already featured forms of corrupted Pokémon that turned against humankind in fits of rage. Given the evidence displayed in the trailer, there are several hints as to what could be angering the Pokémon.

During the Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer, cracks appear in the night sky with lightning erupting from them shortly after. The progression of the trailer implies that these bursts of energy are related to the boss Pokémon that will be spawning throughout the world. This would not be the first time that cosmic energy has agitated or corrupted Pokémon. Pokémon GO and Pokémon XD featured Shadow Pokémon, who had their emotions stifled to become more effective fighters. Pokémon X and Y also featured the manipulation of Xerneas and Yveltal, whose powers were turned against the world and creatures around them.

Pokémon Legends' Biggest Enemies Could Be Sinnoh's Title Legendaries

Pokémon's fourth generation of games featured four powerful legendaries that controlled many aspects of existence. Dialga was the title legendary for Pokémon Diamond, while Pokémon Pearl featured Palkia. These legendaries controlled time and space respectively, and were capable of mass destruction. Arceus is supposedly responsible for the creation of all Pokémon, and Giratina is the master of antimatter and the Distortion World. These powerful creatures have been known to come from the skies, and could be the cause of the lightning strikes that provoke the world bosses. Perhaps the biggest piece of evidence implying Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, or Giratina's involvement is the similarity of their eye color, as both the legendaries and enraged Pokémon have burning red eyes.

Alternatively, features from Pokémon Sword and Shield could be carrying over into Pokémon Legends: Arceus. At several points throughout Sword and Shield's campaign, Gigantamaxed and Dynamaxed Pokémon began rampaging throughout the wilds. These wild monsters needed to be defeated by Champion Leon and other powerful Trainers. If the Gigantamax and Dynamax function is returning in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, this could be the catalyst for the sudden rage of the creatures scattered throughout the open -world.

Whatever is causing the rampaging bosses in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is sure to be a grand adversary for Trainers. Whether it is the actions of humans, the interference of legendary gods, or the beginning of Dynamax powers, players will almost certainly be able to conquer it. Pokémon Legends: Arceus will release January 28th, 2022 and might be preceded by more trailers better depicting the source of the Pokémon's anger.
