It's common knowledge among the Pokémon community that remakes of Pokémon: Diamond & Pearl (Gen 4) have likely been in development for some time, but a Pokémon leaker claims that they can confirm that the remakes are coming later this year. After over a year of constant begging from Pokémon fans asking for Gen 4 remakes, it is possible that their wishes could finally come true.

The Pokémon Company likely has a lot up its sleeve for 2021 seeing as this year is the franchise's 25th anniversary. Another Pokémon leaker claimed earlier this week that a massive Pokémon Direct will take place next month on Pokémon Day, February 27th. According to this trusted leaker, the Direct will feature news and announcements for video games, mobile games, and more. While The Pokémon Company has yet to announce any sort of event, it has been known to celebrate these types of milestones with big announcements on Pokémon Day in the past. Most notably, the announcement of Pokémon: Sun & Moon was held during Pokémon's 20th anniversary.

While there hasn't been word from Game Freak as to which direction it plans on taking the franchise next, Centro Pokémon has reported that Diamond & Pearl remakes are coming this year. In an article published to the Spanish Pokémon news website, Centro Pokémon states "Centro Pokémon can confirm that, according to sources close to the company, remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, originally released in 2006 for the Nintendo DS, are in development for the Nintendo Switch." The article does not name any specific sources but does go on to claim these remakes won't be in the Let's GO style like the Kanto remakes from 2018.

Despite lackluster sourcing, Centro Pokémon states on multiple occasions that it can confirm Gen 4 remakes are going to be announced in February and will release later this year. However, it doesn't take "sources close to the company" to come to the conclusion that a new Pokémon title is on the horizon. Game Freak rarely goes more than 2 or 3 years between major releases, and Pokémon: Sword & Shield were released in 2019. It has also been rumored on multiple occasions that Game Freak is developing Gen 4 remakes, and there is a large pile of evidence leading to the same conclusion.

In all likelihood, Centro Pokémon's "confirmation" of Diamond & Pearl remakes is about as safe to claim as it would be to bet on the Harlem Globetrotters. Major announcements have already been rumored to take place next month, and The Pokémon Company always plans big releases for more important anniversaries. But only time will tell if Centro Pokémon's claims hold as much weight as the Pokémon community is hoping.
