A Pokémon fan is rebuilding the game’s Johto region as a LEGO model. The Johto region was first introduced to the series in Pokémon Gold and Silver, the second generation of games in the franchise. The map was also featured in the Generation IV remakes of those two games, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Generation II of the series was also featured earlier this year in Pokémon GO during the Johto Celebration Event, which increased the spawn rate of Pokémon from the region and introduced challenges centered around catching these local creatures.

With the massive popularity of Pokémon as a franchise, it’s not uncommon for fans to create their own crossovers between it and other series. One fan recently produced a set of Genshin Impact trainer cards based on the Pokémon Trading Card Game, featuring their favorite characters from the popular online game. The LEGO Group is also one of the most successful toy companies in history and it has collaborated with a large number of other popular franchises such as Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and more to manufacture themed LEGO kits.

This new fan-made crossover between Pokémon and LEGO was created by Redditor u/Buscags1 who shared his work on the Pokémon subreddit. The ongoing project is a 1:1 microscale LEGO model of the Johto region and is being built on the popular LEGO Group-owned BrickLink Studio software. So far u/Buscags1 has recreated New Bark Town, the hometown and starting area of the Johto player character, as well as Route 29 and Cherrygrove City. They plan to include and rebuild the entirety of the Johto region, although they mention that it will take some time.

Being a 1:1 microscale LEGO model, the number and sizes of the pieces used for it are impressively small. The trees use only single-stud pieces while most of the houses occupy a 2x2-stud area. In spite of this, the model is still pretty detailed, with windows on the houses and even clear pieces to represent water. The Johto region, like several other maps in the franchise, is based on real-life areas in Japan. Johto in particular references the Kansai region of the country, which can be seen in the area’s geography and culture.

It would be pretty amazing to see Pokémon's Johto region model become a real-life LEGO set, even though it would probably be very expensive given the number of pieces that would be needed for a full recreation. Regardless of size and cost, the model is pretty impressive, and hopefully u/Buscags1 is able to eventually bring it to completion.
