A big update has been announced for Pokémon Home, the Pokémon storage system currently in use for the Pokémon game series. The update, which will introduce new mechanics and a special Pokémon giveaway over the Mystery Gift function in Pokémon Home and Pokémon Sword and Shield, will be releasing in June for mobile devices. The new features will include a special calendar function, as well as new mechanics to use in Pokémon Home's Pokédex.

Pokémon Home is similar to the downloadable application Pokémon Bank, which is used to transfer Pokémon between games on the Nintendo 3DS. However, Pokémon Home took the basic storage concept of Pokémon Bank and introduced features like a global trade system called the Wonder Box. The app also implemented gameplay achievements and a full National Pokédex for fans to fill out as they transfer Pokémon between games like Pokémon GOLet's Go, Eevee! and Let's Go, Pikachu!, and Sword and Shield. Players can also transfer Pokémon from past games by connecting to Pokémon Bank.

According to the Pokémon website, the new mechanics being introduced are meant to allow further customization and interaction with the Pokémon being stored within the application. One of the mechanics being introduced is the Catch Calendar. This allows players to sort the Pokémon in their boxes by the dates in which they were caught, as well as introducing a function that allows players to mark special dates from their gameplay. Whether this is the first Shiny Pokémon ever caught, or the first time a player hatches an egg, Pokémon Home will allow fans the ability to document their own personal Pokémon journey.

Pokémon Home's Pokédex will also be getting a function that offers fans a new perspective when looking at their registered Pokémon species. The National Pokédex will include a mechanic allowing Pokémon to be viewed from multiple angles, revealing details that wouldn't otherwise be visible. This could be particularly exciting to use with Pokémon like Sinistea, which has hidden visual details that tell players which form they possess. Fans who enjoy drawing their Pokémon partners will also have a detailed example available on their mobile devices as long as the Pokémon species has been registered on the app.

Players who have downloaded Pokémon Home will also have the opportunity to receive a gift on the app and in their copies of Pokémon Sword and Shield. The Kanto starters Bulbasaur and Squirtle will be available via the Mystery Gift function after the update's release, and they come with the Gigantamax ability. Currently, there isn't a listed end date for Bulbasaur and Squirtle, so Pokémon Home users will want to hop on and snag their starters as soon as possible, to ensure they don't miss the special update gift.
