Some Pokémon are strong, but they can become even stronger once they evolve. Many factors go into the level evolutions of Pokémon. These factors have to do with exp points, how far they are in their training, and other miscellaneous factors. Their evolution levels range anywhere from the lowest at 7 to the highest which is 64. Since the Pokémon franchise is so enormous, Pokémon are split up into generations.

Each generation contains Pokémon that only reach certain level evolutions. For example, fans don't see level evolutions at 64 until Generation 5, and Generation 1 Pokémon don't go past level 38. Regardless, there are many powerful Pokémon within their generations. The Gold and Silver games from Generation 2 are fan favorites. Let's take a look at the highest level evolutions for these games — at least, for Johto native Pokémon.

Meganium

The cute but rather intimidating Meganium has a level evolution of 32. This grass-type Pokémon is great for defending in battles because it can learn up to 3 defense moves. 2 of which are special. It has the primary ability of Overgrow which is beneficial for all grass-types. This ability significantly increases the power of grass moves. Meganium tends to grow aggressive at times, but the petals around its neck release a substance that suppresses this tendency. Meganium also can bring plants back to life with its breath.

Typhlosion

Jimmy's Typhlosion in battle in The Legend of Thunder! tv movie

Who would think that sweet little Cyndaquill would evolve into the volcanic Typhlosion? This fire-type Pokémon comes in at a level evolution of 36. It's a great Pokémon to use for attacks in battle because it can whip out 3 special attacks. Typhlosion has the beneficial ability Blaze which significantly increases the power of any fire move. When Typhlosion becomes enraged, anything it touches starts to burn. This Pokémon also performs an extremely deadly move in Silver. It can create explosions by massaging its fur together.

Feraligatr

The powerful Pokémon Feraligatr is not to be messed with in Gold and Silver. This water-type Pokémon has a level evolution of 30 with the ability of Torrent. Feraligatr is great in battles because it can attack and defend quite well. Opponents should stay away from Feraligatr's chompers or they will rip them to shreds. There's no mercy once its jaws are around something. The seemingly giant lizard is much faster when it crawls on all fours instead of two feet because it's so heavy. This does not seem to affect its strength in any way though.

Magcargo

Magcargo Pokémon

Even though Magcargo appears to be dorky-looking, this Pokémon comes in with a whopping level evolution of 38. Magcargo is a fire and rock-type Pokémon with two main abilities. First is Magma Armor which protects it from cold weather conditions. Second is Flame Body which attacks opponents when they use their own contact move. Pretty sneaky. Magcargo's shell is essentially hard skin that can break off by soft touches. This Pokémon also spits out random flames.

Tyranitar

Team Rocket Tyranitar

One of, if not the highest level evolution in Gold and Silver is coming in at 55 from Tytanitar. This armor Pokémon is a rock and dark-type with the ability of Sand Stream. This ability causes storms of sand before Tyranitar begins to battle. Plus, this can last for up to 5 attacks.

This monstrous Pokémon has a body of steel and any attacks against it cannot hurt its body. In Silver, Tyranitar can alter the way a landscape looks! It's a Pokémon that keeps to itself but it's content.

Ursaring

Ursaring Pokemon

Ursaring is a leap from Teddiursa so trainers better be ready. This bear-like Pokémon has a level evolution of 30 and it is a normal-type. It's very good when it comes to attacks and has two main abilities. One of these abilities is Gut which increases its attack significantly. The other ability is Quick Feet which increases Ursaring's speed. Ursaring can climb very well but prefers to stay on the ground and eat berries. Just like bears in real life, Ursaring can smell food from miles away and underground food.

Forretress

The very unique-looking Forretress has a level evolution of 31. It's a bug-type Pokémon and can learn two defense moves for battles. It's ability Sturdy allows it to withstand a full HP which usually takes down some Pokémon. Even the biggest Pokémon fans don't know what is underneath its outer shell. This is because its entire body is covered by this thick barrier. Sometimes it flings bits of its shell at enemies if it feels threatened.

Ampharos

The funny-looking Pokémon Ampharos has a level evolution of 30. It is an electric-type Pokémon and can learn 3 special attacks which trainers should take advantage of. Its ability Static can paralyze opponents if they make a contact move. This doesn't happen every time, however. The ball on the tip of Ampharos's tail can help those who are lost because it's very radiant. In Silver, this ball is seen as a beacon that dates back to ancient eras.

Piloswine

Fans might ask themselves if Piloswine is a Pokémon or Cousin It. This pig-like Pokémon has a level evolution of 33.   It originally evolves from Swinub and it can evolve for a third time into Mamoswine. However, this is only after it learns the Ancient Power move.

Also, Mamoswine is not primarily in the Gold and Silver games. Regardless, Piloswine is an ice and ground-type Pokémon. It has the abilities of Oblivious and Snow Cloak. These abilities allow it to not be affected by moves based on gender, and for hail to heal any damage.

Jumpluff

Jumppluff falls at the lower end when it comes to level evolutions in comparison to other Pokémon. However, it's on the high side when strictly speaking for Gold and Silver. Jumpluff has a level evolution of 27 and it is a grass and flying-type Pokémon. It has the ability Chlorophyll which increases its speed whenever sunlight touches it. Jumpluff also has the ability Leaf Guard which protects it from a wide variety of damages. Even though Jumopluff is already a flying-type, gusts of wind can send it flying even farther than normal. The cotton balls on it break apart which creates more of its kind.
