A new Pokémon GO video hints at the arrival of Generation Seven’s Ultra Beasts, starting with the eerie, jellyfish-like Nihilego. In 2016’s Pokémon Sun and Moon, players were introduced to the Ultra Beasts, a group of extraterrestrial Pokémon from an alternate dimension known as Ultra Space. They emerged in the Alola region through rifts called Ultra Wormholes, and are said to be connected to the legendary trio of Solgaleo, Lunala, and Necrozma - also known as "the Light trio". The Ultra Beasts possess incredible powers that often threaten the environment around them.

One of the most bizarre and unsettling of Pokémon Sun And Moon’s Ultra Beasts is Nihilego, a Rock/Poison-type Pokémon that resembles a large, ethereal jellyfish that is sometimes mistaken for a young girl due to its tentacles resembling human limbs. Its appearance is creepy enough, but Nihilego is also a parasitic creature that can merge with another Pokémon or even a human by latching onto the victim’s head and subduing them with a neurotoxin that triggers increased feelings of excitement and a loss of inhibitions. Aside from its appearance in the Pokémon Sun and Moon games, Nihilego has been featured in a few episodes of the long-running Pokémon anime series, as well as popping up as a Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Now, it appears that Nihilego is headed to Pokémon GO, and the rest of Gen Seven’s Ultra Beasts might not be too far behind. The official Pokémon GO Twitter account posted a brief video teaser for Nihilego’s impending introduction in the game, featuring the jellyfish-like creature floating in a void as ominous music plays in the background. The video also shows a trainer dressed in the uniform of the Ultra Recon Squad, an organization from 2017’s Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon that is tasked with researching the Ultra Beasts and the parallel dimension they come from - but it isn’t clear if Pokémon GO will include this as an alternate battle attire for players.

Even before this recent tease of the Ultra Beasts, Pokémon Go has been adding plenty of new Pokémon from Sun and Moon’s Alola region as of late. This includes last month’s “Seasons Of Alola” event and the most recent Alolan Geodude Pokémon GO Community Day event that gave players a chance to catch the Rock/Electric hybrid and its evolutions - as well as bake some delicious Alolan Geodude-themed chocolate treats. This will culminate in this week’s Pokémon GO “Alola to Alola” event, which will highlight at least 15 Alolan Pokémon forms and their Shiny variants.

With all this focus on the Alola region and its alternate takes on fan-favorite Pokémon like Raichu and Geodude, it was likely only a matter of time before the extra-dimensional Ultra Beasts made an appearance in Pokémon GO. It still isn’t clear when Nihilego will arrive in Pokémon GO or if any of the other Ultra Beasts will be made available to capture, so fans should stay posted for new developments on when the denizens of Ultra Space will emerge to do battle in Pokémon GO.
