An upcoming crossover between Pokémon GO and the Pokémon Trading Card Game will give players the chance to catch a Shiny Meltan by transferring another Pokémon from Pokémon GO to one of the Nintendo Switch Pokémon games. Nintendo’s long-running monster-collecting franchise recently celebrated its 25th-anniversary last year, and spin-off media like Pokémon GO and the Pokémon Trading Card Game continue to showcase the many different titular creatures with special cards and in-game promotions. A crossover event between both these Pokémon properties was announced in May, with Pokémon TGC releasing a wave of new cards modeled after some of Pokémon GO’s most popular available Pokémon in July.

One of the many Pokémon species that will be included in this upcoming crossover promotion is Meltan, a liquid metal Steel-type that was first introduced in 2018’s Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! for the Nintendo Switch. Both Meltan and its evolved form Melmetal were brought into Pokémon GO that September ahead of their arrival on the Switch, and players would be given several chances to catch a Shiny variant of the rare and unique Meltan by collecting Mystery Boxes after transferring another Pokémon to the Pokémon Let's GO games. The Shiny Meltan required luck to obtain, and the chances to acquire the Mystery Boxes containing them have been few and far between - making the special variant of the already rare creature even more desirable to Pokémon GO players.

According to PokémonGoLive, these players will get another opportunity to obtain Shiny Meltan during the upcoming Pokémon GO/Pokémon Trading Card Game crossover that will start on Thursday, June 16, and continue until Thursday, June 30. As was the case with previous Shiny Meltan-themed Pokémon GO events, players will obtain a Mystery Box by transferring another Pokémon from Pokémon GO to either Pokémon HOME or the Nintendo Switch titles Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!. Additionally, the time players have to wait until they can open another Mystery Box will be reduced during the two-week-long event. There will be other special Pokémon available to capture during the Pokémon GO/Pokémon Trading Card Game crossover, such as Wimpod, Golisopod, and a special version of Pokémon franchise mascot Pikachu wearing a Pokémon TCG-themed hat.

This crossover with the Pokémon Trading Card is just the latest Pokémon GO special event this year, as developer Niantic has released numerous events surrounding the creatures of the Alolan region for the past few months. The latest of these promotions will introduce the interdimensional Ultra Beasts to Pokémon GO alongside Tyrunt and Amaura. Additionally, Pokémon GO Fest 2022 has already taken place, with in-person events also happening throughout June, July, and August for players to participate in.

For those who are excited about the crossover between Pokémon GO and the Pokémon Trading Card Game, a number of card sets have already been announced that might be worth collecting either to play with or have as mementos for the event. The Meltan crossover event in Pokémon GO will last the rest of the month, so players will have plenty of chances to gather Mystery Boxes and try their luck at finding the Shiny Steel-type Pokémon.
