Every Tuesday in July, from 6-7 local time, players can participate in Pokémon Go's Spotlight Hour. During Spotlight Hour, a different Pokémon is featured each week. Players can find the chosen Pokémon more frequently during the hour, and the chance of catching a Shiny version of that Pokémon increases. Participating in Spotlight Hour will also help players get more Candy for evolving the featured Pokémon.

In addition to finding featured Pokémon more frequently during Pokémon Go's Spotlight Hour, players will get special bonuses, like the 2x Evolution Experience during Pokémon Go's June Spinarak Spotlight Hour last month. This bonus changes each week.

The four featured Pokémon for July's Pokémon Go Spotlight Hour are Ledyba, Machop, Staryu, and Meditite. Ledyba will be featured for the July 5 Spotlight Hour, Machop for July 12, Staryu for July 19, and Meditite for July 26. Staryu in particular is a hard-to-find Pokémon in the wild outside of events like this, so players should hunt around on July 19th for this elusive Water Pokémon. If players are looking for more events like Spotlight Hour, they can also log in from 6-7 on Wednesdays for Raid Hours.

Spotlight Hour is another way for players to get involved with Pokémon Go's community-based events, including ones where players from around the country visit certain cities to explore, meet new people, and catch rare Pokémon. For each Tuesday in July, a different Pokémon will be featured for Pokémon Go's Spotlight Hour:

  • July 5 - Ledyba. Johto region's Ledyba and its Shiny version will appear more frequently in the wild. The Shiny Ledyba has a lighter orange shell than its normal counterpart. Additionally, players will earn 2x experience points when catching Pokémon during Ledyba's Spotlight Hour in Pokémon Go. Ledyba is a Bug and Flying-type Pokémon that evolves into Ledian with 25 Ledyba candies.
  • July 12 - Machop. Kanto region's Machop and its Shiny counterpart will appear more frequently in the wild. Pokémon Go's Shiny Machop is green, instead of the normal blue, so it should be easy to identify. Players will earn 2x candy for catching Pokémon during Machop's Spotlight Hour in Pokémon Go. Machop is a Fighting Pokémon that evolves to Machoke with 25 candies and Machamp with another 100 candies.
  • July 19 - Staryu. Kanto region's Staryu and its Shiny will appear more frequently in the wild. Shiny Staryu is green, compared to the normal yellow, so like the Machop Shiny it should be easy to spot the difference. Players will earn 2x candy when transferring Pokémon during Staryu's Spotlight Hour in Pokémon Go. Staryu is a Water Pokémon that evolves into Starmie with 50 candies.
  • July 16 - Meditite. Hoenn region's Meditite and its Shiny version will appear more frequently in the wild. Shiny Meditite has a red body instead of its normal blue body. Players will earn 2x experience for evolving Pokémon during Meditite's Spotlight Hour in Pokémon Go. Meditite is a Fighting and Psychic Pokémon that evolves into Medicham with 50 candies.
