Niantic has finally implemented a feature in Pokémon GO that fans have been asking for; an increased level cap. Previously, players could only raise their trainer to level 40, but following the Go Beyond event, it can be raised to 50! Those that reached the previous level cap have new goals to look forward to that may reinvigorate their interest in the mobile game.

Higher rank levels mean that players can power up their Pokémon’s levels more than they ever could before. However, reaching the new ranks functions differently than normal. There are new goals that must be met to advance each level and some of them are challenging. But for those that do progress further, plenty of valuable rewards are waiting for them in addition to their powered-up allies. This guide will explain the requirements needed to reach rank 50 in Pokémon GO and what awaits those who make it.

Pokémon GO’s Level 50 Rank Up Requirements

While each new level has a few requirements that players must fulfill, they also need to continue earning EXP. Fortunately, Niantic has increased the amount of experience players receive, so this process will be slightly easier than it was before. That said, the tasks that each level requires are all difficult and may take several weeks to complete, so don’t expect to reach level 50 in a few days. As this is the first known time the developers have raised the level cap in the game's history, they likely wanted the leveling up to last for years to come.

Level 41 Tasks

  • Level 41’s requirements set the tone for how challenging these tasks can be: players must catch 200 Pokémon in a single day, power up a Legendary 20 times, win 30 raids, and earn 5 gold medals. Medal progress can be viewed by viewing player stats, so find several thar are close to completion and work towards those. To catch lots of Pokémon, be sure to use Incense and set up lure modules in places with lots of Pokéstops.

Level 42 Tasks

  • Use 200 berries to catch Pokémon, perform 3 excellent throws, use 15 items to evolve Pokémon, and obtain every Eeveelution through evolving Eevees. Some Pokémon evolve using special stones or items, which can be earned through online battles or events, so participate in those to fulfill this task.

Level 43 Tasks

  • Have Pokémon perform 200 supereffective charged moves, catch 5 Legendaries, gain 100000 stardust, and earn 5 platinum medals. Players can only use charged attacks in combat, so reach this milestone by taking part in gym battles and raids.

Level 44 Tasks

  • Win 30 battles in all 3 Battle Leagues and the current GO battle league. Each battle league has different CP limitations, so having a team of Pokémon that are incredibly high level won’t work here. Instead of leveling up every ally, be sure to save some for each league. In particular, the Great League caps out at 1,500, the Ultra League at 2,500, and the Master League has no limit.

Level 45 Tasks

  • Beat 100 Team Rocket GO grunts, purify 100 of their shadow Pokémon, beat their leaders 50 times, and earn 10 more platinum medals. After each grunt battle, players have a chance to catch their shadow Pokémon. Always do so to quickly satisfy this requirement.

Level 46 Tasks

  • Make 50 excellent throws, hatch 30 eggs, finish 100 field research tasks, and take a snapshot of a Pokémon each day of the week. The game does not specify what type of eggs need to be hatched, so focus on the 2 KM eggs that take less time.

Level 47 Tasks

  • Win a 3 star raid with Pokémon that have less than 1500 combat power, win 30 raids with Pokémon of different species, power up 6 Pokémon to their maximum power level and receive 20 platinum medals. This goes without saying, but make sure the Pokémon that are maxed out are ones above 1500 cp, so there will still be Pokémon available to complete the first requirement.

Level 48 Tasks

  • Walk 200 kilometers with a buddy Pokémon, reach 300 hearts with it, and earn 20 souvenirs. In addition, walk a collective total of 25 kilometers within 8 weeks. Players will need to go for long hikes to complete these requirements.

Level 49 Tasks

  • Send as many gifts as possible to friends and trade several lucky Pokémon to friends. Those that have more friends in Pokémon GO will satisfy these tasks more easily.

Level 50 Tasks

  • Make more excellent throws, catch some more Legendaries, and defeat Team Rocket GO Leaders with Pokémon under 1,500 CP. Players can’t brute force their way through fights here, and must bring allies with type advantages to best each boss.
