Pokémon GO’s Primal Rumblings event has been announced, bringing back Rayquaza to the 5-star Legendary Raids and Mega Latios and Mega Latias to the Mega Raid spotlight. The limited-time event is set to happen between February 22 at 10 AM and February 24 at 10 AM local time. It is a prelude to the worldwide version of Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn, which will feature many Generation 3 creatures and introduce the Primal Ground and Primal Kyogre to all players after their debut at Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn – Las Vegas.
The Primal Rumblings event in Pokémon GO is an opportunity for players to gather catching supplies, seeing there will be multiple rewards for players who participate in Field Researches. This is, of course, an added bonus to the chance of encountering a Shiny Rayquaza in Pokémon GO, which is one of the main attractions of the Primal Rumblings event. Mustering Mega Energy for Latios and Latias is also an available task for players who missed out on previous opportunities.
Wild Encounters During Pokémon GO: Primal Rumblings
Because Pokémon GO: Primal Rumblings is a Hoenn-themed event ahead of the global version of Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn, some Gen 3 Pokémon are to be featured as wild encounters. According to Pokémon GO’s official site, the Hoenn starters will appear more frequently in the wild, along with a few other local creatures.
A total of eleven different Hoenn creatures may spawn in the wild during Pokémon GO: Primal Rumblings. Players looking for a Shiny Treecko in Pokémon GO, for instance, should take advantage of this opportunity. With the exception of Grovyle, Combusken, and Marshtomp, all wild encounters in Primal Rumblings have a chance of being Shiny.

Raids During Pokémon GO: Primal Rumblings
The Primal Rumblings event in Pokémon GO will feature a few different creatures, depending on the challenged tier. While the Hoenn starters are stars of the simple 1-star raids, Rayquaza scores a return to 5-star Legendary raids. Mega Latios and Mega Latias are the featured Mega Raid opponents during the period. Rayquaza will stay in raids until March 1, but it is uncertain if the Legendary Mega Raids in Pokémon GO will also remain until then. Here are all the raids during Primal Rumblings:
1-Star Raids |
Treecko |
Torchic |

Mudkip |

3-Star Raids |
Grovyle |
Combusken |

Marshtomp |

5-Star Raids |

As is the case with the wild encounters, Grovyle, Combusken, and Marshtomp do not have a chance of being Shinies, while all the other featured Pokémon do. All Rayquaza captured during Pokémon GO: Primal Rumblings will know the Charged Attack Breaking Swipe. The move has a 50-power stat and reduces the opponent’s Attack in Trainer Battles. In Gyms and raids, it has a 35-power stat. Players looking to challenge the Hoenn Legendary should look into Rayquaza’s counters in Pokémon GO to optimize their chances of success.
Event Bonuses & Collection Challenge During Pokémon GO: Primal Rumblings
During the Primal Rumblings event in Pokémon GO, players will gain 2x XP for evolving Pokémon. While that is the primary event bonus, it is noteworthy that players will also be able to complete Hoenn-themed Field Research tasks to earn items. As appointed by the official website, this is a chance for players to gather items to prepare for Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn - Global.
Another feature in Pokémon GO: Primal Rumblings is a new Collection Challenge. Players who complete the “Evolution-themed” Collection Challenge will receive a bonus of Ultra Balls and a Rocket Radar. The Pokémon that should be evolved has not yet been revealed, but are likely linked to the ones present in the wild encounters. Players will also get themed Stickers in Pokémon GO by opening presents and spinning PokéStops.
The Primal Rumblings event in Pokémon GO will feature many exciting creatures to hunt and prizes to claim, but it is all but a prelude to Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn - Global, a much larger event. Players will be able to grab Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon, along with the different Deoxys forms and even a Shiny Jirachi. Wild encounters will also be more abundant and varied, with up to 54 different featured Pokémon.
