The Unova Grass-type Pokémon Petilil has made its return to Pokémon GO as a One-Star boss encounter for the end of April's 2022 Raid lineup. Using the best counters, players will be able to defeat and catch the Black and White Pokémon with ease. Currently, the mobile game is halfway through Pokémon GO's "Seasons of Alola" event, which introduced a large number of Pokémon from Sun and Moon. However, Niantic has also brought back a variety of classic Pokémon like Petilil, offering plenty of options for players to catch.

Petilil will be available as an option in One-Star Raids starting April 12th and will continue to be in the PVE mode's rotation until April 26, at 10 AM local time. Players looking to add Petilil and its evolution Lilligant, to their team will be able to find the Black and White Pokémon in any local Gym that's been taken over by a Raid. Unlike powerful Five-Star raids, players should be able to jump in on Petilil's Raid battles without additional trainers, making it an easy encounter.

To catch Petilil, Pokémon GO trainers will need to obtain a Raid Pass to battle in person, or buy a Remote Raid Pass from the in-game store to join remotely. According to Leek Duck Petilil will spawn with a health point range of CP 543 - 588, and its HP can be further boosted during Sunny weather conditions to CP 679 - 736. However, players will not be able to run into Petilil's Shiny variant during its return as a Raid Boss in the Seasons of Alola event.

The Best Petilil Raid Counters In Pokémon Go

Because of Petilil's Grass-typing, its main weakness is Flying, Poison, Bug, Fire, and Ice-type attacks. Below are some of the best Pokémon and move sets to counter Petilil in Pokémon GO.

  • Darmanitan (Galarian Zen): Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Reshiram: Fire Fang and Overheat
  • Chandelure: Fire Spin and Overheat
  • Moltres: Fire Spin and Sky Attack
  • Charizard: Fire Spin and Fire Blast
  • Roserade: Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb

After defeating and catching Petilil, the Grass-type can be evolved into Lilligant using 50 Petilil Candy and Pokémon GO's Sun Stone. However, the special evolution item can only be obtained through a few methods, such as spinning Gyms and PokeStops, making it a potentially difficult evolution to obtain for those unable to grind Pokéstop spins. While Grass-type Pokémon struggle to match the power of Fighting and Fire-types due to having a wide range of weaknesses, Petilil and Lilligant can offer up a fun option for Pokémon GO trainers looking to add variety to their battle strategies.
