A pun-loving Pokémon GO player is attempting to assemble a pocket monster roster of shiny variations all named after famous musicians. To close out the year, Niantic has implemented a holiday themed event for Pokémon GO that boosts Ice-type Pokémon and adds festive costumes fitting the season. It will run from December 16 until just before the new year on December 31.

When it comes to customization, Niantic's augmented reality mobile title has relatively limited options available to players. Most of these elements are strictly relegated to the player's avatar appearance through pieces of clothing. Meanwhile, visual alterations for the Pokémon themselves are limited to certain event versions of Pokémon that have unique costumes - all of which cannot be changed. Arguably the most substantial element of enabled customizations for players' Pokémon is the feature that allows a trainer to rename them; and, recently, one fan showcased how they are getting the most out of this mechanic.

Reddit user ConureCultist shared a screen shot of a work-in-progress group of shiny Pokémon called the "Musicians Collection." Each member was specifically caught because their base name sounds similar to that of a famous musician. Featured in this ensemble are the likes of Billy Jolt, Eevee Wonder and Rick Gastly - references to Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder and Rick Astley - though, it appears the owner of this last name has gone through a few evolutions and Rick Gengar does not quite fit the intended theme.

What makes ConureCultist's task all the more challenging is the fact that all members of their Musicians Collection have to be shiny Pokémon, which can be difficult to spot depending on the specific kind. Even though the Reddit user states in their initial post that they are still hunting for Meltan John, they have since caught shiny versions of Machamp and Rapidash. These have joined the Musicians Collections with the names Mach Jagger and Johnny Dash, respectively. Commenters gave further recommendations on who else might be worthy to join this unique group.

Many great examples of creativity are spawned thanks to restrictions and limitations. There is not much trainers in Pokémon GO can do to distinguish themselves when it comes to customization. However - among the options that do exist - naming Pokémon is perhaps one of the best forms of self expression. ConureCultist has even imposed more limitations for this self-imposed challenge by restricting the group to shiny Pokémon only. In spite of that, however, the group seems to be growing at a rapid pace and there is no telling just how big it will become.
