The Mountain of Power is the newest event in Pokémon Go. These events typically only last for a few days and will change which Pokémon are actively spawning. The Pokémon Go New Year's spectacular event recently focused on Pokémon with special costumes. This included a Golden Tuxedo Hoothoot and 2022 Glasses Slowking. Although, all the special Pokémon attached to the event disappeared as the occasion ended. Now, the Mountain of Power event is here and focuses heavily on Pokémon that spawn in mountainous areas.

The Mountains of Power event will occur from Friday, January 7, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. to Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. local time. As trainers team up with Gym Leader Spark, they soon discover the second mechanism to open a mysterious door. This is directly connected to Rock and Steel-type Pokémon, causing them to appear more frequently. It also features its own Timed Research tasks for trainers to complete for special rewards. Clear them out for a chance to find rare Pokémon.

With the Mountains of Power only lasting for less than a week, trainers should clear out any incomplete tasks before the event is over. The Mountain of Power event will set up the stage for the upcoming Pokémon Go Johto Tour event. Similar to the Kanto Tour of 2021, Johto Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, and trainers will have the chance to find Shiny versions of all of them. In addition, Pokémon that appear in Raid Battles and through are switched out for more Rock/Ground-type Pokémon.

Not only that, but with a heavy emphasis on Ground and Rock-type Pokémon, there's a chance for players to clear out slots for their Pokédex. Pokémon like Alolan Golem and Donphan can be useful when battling raids or when participating in Pokémon Go's PvP battles. Clearing out the 'event' tagged Field Research tasks will reward trainers with Alolan Geodude, Slugma, or Mawile encounters. They all have the chance to appear Shiny and this event is also the debut of Shiny Slugma in Pokémon Go. It goes without saying that the Shiny Slugma will be incredibly rare to find and capture.
