Mega Latias and Mega Latios will be joining Pokémon GO during an upcoming event. While Mega Evolution has been available in Pokémon GO for a few years now, it recently received a massive overhaul. For starters, Mega Raids require fewer players than before in order to participate, making it much easier to harvest Mega Energy. Mega Evolution Pokémon also receive rewards the more the trainer Mega Evolves them. It's a big push for trainers to Mega Evolve their Pokémon and Latias and Latios are the next in line.
Both Mega Latias and Mega Latios will be in Mega Raid battles during the Air Adventures event. During the event, trainers will be able to find and capture a Flying Pikachu with special balloons attached to its body. Pikachu has to learn how to fly somehow. The Pokémon GO Air Adventures event will take place from Tuesday, May 3, 2022, to Sunday, May 8, 2022. This means that trainers have until May 8th to capture both Mega Latias and Mega Latios before they are rotated out of Raid Battles in favor of a different Pokémon.
To capture Mega Latias in Pokémon GO, trainers will need to defeat them in battle. Mega Latias is a Psychic and Dragon-type Pokémon, giving it weaknesses to Fairy, Dark, Dragon, Ice, Ghost, and Bug-type attacks. On the bright side, Mega Latios is also the same typing, meaning trainers can use the same team to bring them down. It's recommended to participate in this raid battle with at least four other players present. Any less might make Mega Latias too difficult to defeat. Mega Latias also has the chance to appear in its Shiny form during the capturing phase of the battle. It's a bright yellow, making it stick out much more vibrantly than its usual red color. Latias' that are captured during this period will learn the Psychic-type attack Mist Ball. It's a charged attack that will do 120 power in trainer battles with the chance to lower the opponent Pokémon's HP. In the gym and raids, the power will be reduced to 105.
