The upcoming Pokémon GO Johto Tour will introduce Apex Shadow Lugia and Apex Shadow Ho-Oh as powerful foes for players to face. Niantic's alternate reality mobile game has managed to maintain a large and loyal playerbase thanks to frequent support, like new events and new Pokémon collect. The upcoming Pokémon GO Tour: Johto event will pay tribute to the beloved region first introduced in 1999's Pokémon Gold and Silver.

Arriving on February 26, Pokémon GO's Johto Tour will require that players pay for a premium ticket before the festivities can begin. Once they purchase a ticket, players will be able to choose between Pokémon Gold and Silver starters Cyndaquil, Chikorita, or Totodile and participate in a variety of Johto-inspired activities. This new content will include research opportunities, wild Pokémon encounters, special attacks, the Johto Battle League, Shiny Pokémon appearances and more. Rotating habitats will influence which Pokémon appear throughout the tour, which will run from 9am to 9pm local time. Pokémon GO's Johto Tour will feature Celebi and Shiny Gyarados, too, giving players an opportunity to catch two rare pocket monsters.

As announced on the Pokémon GO blog, the upcoming Johto Tour will include Apex Shadow Lugia and Apex Shadow Ho-Oh as powerful new creatures to collect. The new shadowy versions of the Pokémon Gold and Silver Legendaries have been created by Arlo, one of the leaders of the villainous Team Rocket. Johto Tour ticket holders who complete the event's Special Research will unlock a Masterwork Research line, and completing this lengthy task will give gamers the chance to encounter Apex Shadow Ho-Oh and Apex Shadow Lugia. Capturing the creatures will purify them, further strengthening their abilities.

Pokémon GO's tours only last for a single day, giving gamers little time to experience a large amount of brand-new content. Two different tickets to the event are being sold, and a guide to Pokémon Go's upcoming Johto Tour outlines the differences between the two. Both tickets increase odd of encountering different Shiny Pokémon, with the Gold ticket featuring Shiny Cyndaquil and Ho-Oh while the Silver ticket includes Shiny Chikorita and Lugia. The choice ultimately comes down to player preference, with a free February Timed Research being awarded to trainers who pre-ordered their ticket before February 10.

Niantic's ongoing support of Pokémon GO is quite remarkable, with in-game events adding many activities and additions for players to enjoy. The upcoming Johto Tour will no doubt be one of 2022's biggest events, allowing players to revisit the splendor of a classic franchise setting. Dedicated players will also be able to face off against Apex Shadow Lugia and Apex Shadow Ho-Oh, potentially adding the powerful Legendary variants to their monster collection.
