A special Pikachu wearing an Okinawa Kariyushi shirt will soon be available for capture in Pokémon Go. As the mascot of the series, Pikachu has been given the most diverse costume line-up in the game. There's also a special Pikachu variant to capture while active for Halloween, Christmas, anniversaries, and other in-game events. These costumed Pikachu don't have anything significant besides their design. Although, since they are tied to limited-time events, they are only available for a short period, making them incredibly rare down the line.
This is part of the Pokémon Air Adventure collaboration event that was rescheduled last year. It's important to mention that this event is tied to players who can visit Okinawa in Japan. Starting on March 19th, this Pikachu form will begin to appear in the wild in Okinawa exclusively. It will be available for over a year with no removal date announced just yet. Since it's likely not many players will be able to visit Okinawa in the near future; there is still a way to obtain this special Pikachu.
The best way to obtain the Okinawa Kariyushi shirt Pikachu is to get max friendship with another player from that region. Pokémon Go is a social game with groups of dedicated players worldwide looking to trade. Pokémon Go only allows trainers to trade with registered friends that stand in close proximity. Although, trainers can build friendships from remote distances by sending gifts to each other. The more hearts the player collects, the less Stardust is needed to complete a special trade. It's common for Pokémon Go to remove these trading limitations during special events, so players should take advantage of those to get in some long-distance trades.
Obtaining The Okinawa Kariyushi Shirt in Pokémon Go
A Pokémon Go Global Collaboration event is also happening with Pokémon Air Adventures. From Tuesday, May 3rd to Sunday, May 8th, players will be able to participate in this event worldwide. While it hasn't been confirmed if the Okinawa Kariyushi shirt Pikachu will spawn globally for a limited time, it's likely the event is either connected to Pikachu or Corsala, the other Pokémon for this event. Corsola is a Water- and Rock-type Pokémon that exclusively spawns in tropical regions along the Equator.
A handful of Pokémon is tied to specific locations on Earth. Trainers in Okinawa will be given a chance to find a Shiny Pikachu and Shiny Corsola during this event. Since these are regional exclusive, they will be incredibly rare later on. Unless they are released globally as part of this event, they might remain some of the most difficult creatures to capture in Pokémon Go.
