Although it's been a bit ambiguous in the past, The Pokémon Company has elaborated a bit on how it plans to allow players to transfer Pokémon between Pokémon Go and Pokémon Home. Much to the chagrin of fans, transferring Pokémon will have cooldowns. These cooldowns can be shortened, and even removed, if players are willing to spend enough Pokécoins. But exactly how much that will cost remains unclear; however, there are some educated guesses as to how much players should expect to spend on transfers.

The news that Pokémon Go would allow for transfers to Pokémon Home came last week, and that was quickly followed by the speculation that it would cost real money. Understandably, Pokémon fans weren't thrilled with this news, since Pokémon Home already costs real money ($15.99 a year for Premium) for anyone who wishes to deposit more than 30 of their monsters.

It's still unclear if Premium subscribers to Pokémon Home will be affected by the costs of Pokémon Go transfers. However, since that initial announcement, The Pokémon Company has elaborated by saying transferring isn't what will cost players - it's removing transfer cooldowns. After transferring a Pokémon to Pokémon Home from Pokémon Go, there will be an unspecified cooldown period. If players want to shorten or remove the cooldown, they'll have to spend Pokécoins, which is in-game currency, to do so. Ultimately, that can lead to spending real-world money to buy Pokécoins. But how much should players expect to pay?

How Much Pokémon Go & Home Transfers May Cost

Pokemon Go Raids

While nothing official has been released by The Pokémon Company regarding the exact number of Pokécoins a transfer will cost, there are some educated guesses to be made. Currently, 100 Pokécoins cost $0.99, while 550 cost $4.99. The pricing can go all the way up to $99.99 for 14500 coins. Because of this, it's reasonable to assume players could spend 100 coins on the first cooldown, with subsequent cooldowns costing more. However, it's important to remember that Pokécoins can be obtained through other ways that don't require spending real money.

Legendary Pokémon may also require longer cooldowns, which could result in costing more Pokécoins to speed things along. For example, transferring Moltres from Pokémon Go to Pokémon Home may have a longer cooldown than transferring something common like a Pidgey. Additionally, that could mean spending more Pokécoins to remove the cooldown on Moltres than it would to remove Pidgey's.

For now, it still remains unclear how long cooldowns will last and how many Pokécoins players can expect to spend. However, based on how other mechanics in Pokémon Go work, as well as pricing for Pokémon Home and Pokécoins, it could end up costing playings anywhere from $1-$5 in realm money to buy enough coins to remove the cooldowns for Pokémon transfers.
