Niantic is pre-gaming Halloween with a ghost-type Pokémon GO event later this month, and while Halloween is the spookiest time of year, Pokémon GO's event is quite adorable. While players will have to brave the outdoors to fully participate in this event, there is nothing scary about the Pokémon GO Catch Mastery: Ghost event.

While the ghost event is meant to prepare trainers for the spooky season, it isn't Pokémon GO's big Halloween event. The details for the Halloween event have yet to be announced from Niantic, but they have already been leaked. Players can expect much bigger surprises from Pokémon GO Halloween including a new Gen 8 Pokémon joining the mix, new Halloween-themed gift boxes, and a whole lot more. That event will start later this month, but players will have to settle for the upcoming ghost-type event until then.

Pokémon GO announced the upcoming ghost-type event on Twitter and on its official website. The Catch Mastery: Ghost event is slated to take place on Sunday, October 25th, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time. During the event, the ghost-type Pokémon Drifloon will appear more often in the wild. There will also be Timed Research tasks that players will only have access to during the event. These tasks will likely be centered around catching a large number of Drifloon and other ghost-type Pokémon. Players will also be able to complete event-exclusive Field Research which rewards them with ghost-type encounters and Gengar Mega Energy.

Pokémon is filled with terrifying ghost-types, but Drifloon isn't one of them. Its design is pretty derby with its balloon-like body, noodle arms, and cotton ball hair. While its Pokédex entry states that Drifloon is known for stealing children who mistake it for a regular balloon (which is horrifying), it also states that Drifloon is easily resisted due to its lightweight status. There are other ghost-type Pokémon that curse people for no reason or ones that slowly drain the life from their victims, but Pokémon GO decided to fill itself with adorable purple balloons this time around.

While trainers can't be certain whether or not the ghost event will give Drifloon increased shiny odds, the event is worth participating in for the chance to find a shiny Drifloon. Drifloon's shiny variant is fantastic. His purple body turns bright yellow, and his yellow mouth and heart-hands turn turquoise. Even if its shiny odds aren't changed, the increased spawn rate will make it easier for trainers to hunt the elusive yellow balloon in Pokémon GO.
