Hatching eggs is one of the most rewarding experiences in Pokemon Go! There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a newborn Pokemon that trainers have worked hard themselves to hatch. Hatching eggs can be a long task, though. Walking ten kilometers can be a little difficult when trainers have a full-time job, school, or other tasks that require them to sit for long periods of time. So the question becomes, how can a player hatch eggs in an effective manner?
Luckily, there are some solutions to gaining those kilometers easily. Knowing which Incubator to use, how often to walk, and what type of egg players have can be crucial to quickly hatching Pokemon eggs. Here are some tips for how to hatch Pokemon Go! eggs effectively and quickly.
Pokemon Go! Egg Types
Firstly, there is a wide variety of eggs for players to hatch. Each egg has different Pokemon and requires different distances to walk. There are the green spotted eggs, which take about 2 kilometers to hatch. There are the 5-kilometer eggs which has yellow spots. The 7-kilometer egg is yellow with pink spots (which exclusively have Alolan eggs). Then there's the standard purple-spotted egg which is a 10-kilometer distance. The purple egg will generally have the rarer of the Pokemon. Each egg hatches a different type of Pokemon and the potential Pokemon change periodically, along with the chance of their hatching.
It's also worth noting that there is a 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer egg that hatches exclusive Pokemon as well. However, these eggs are only received after reaching certain walking goals for the trainer. The only way for players to obtain eggs are either through the weekly Fitness challenges, by spinning stops, or getting them as gifts from friends. But getting eggs is random, there is no guarantee a player will get an egg from spinning a stop or opening a gift. Players just have to be persistent and keep trying.
Incubators Are A Pokemon Go! Essential
Of course, in order to hatch an egg, players will have to obtain an Incubator. Although players have a free, infinite use Incubator that comes with the game, players also are offered three-time use Incubators in the store. Choosing which Incubator can be a little tricky, however, there is an easy way to select which egg should go into which Incubator.
If players have a 2 KM egg, those should go into the unlimited use Incubator first. Their hatch time is easier to achieve, so hatching the 2 KM eggs through this Incubator should help cycle through those easy to hatch eggs. If players do have a three-use Incubator, the 10 KM egg should be used. Since 10 KM eggs are harder to hatch, using the three-time Incubator is the best option to get the most out of the Incubator. The same goes for the Super Incubators. This will help reduce the amount of walking time players have to use to hatch these eggs. This will give players more bang for their Incubator buck.
How Pokemon Go! Measures Distance
The current walking speed that Pokemon Go! can track now is about 10.5 kilometers per hour (or 6.5 miles per hour). If players go faster than this speed, Pokemon Go! will discount the distance players are traveling or worse, ignore the distance altogether. If players reach 35 kilometers per hour (or 22 miles per hour), the speed-lock popup will show, indicating that little if any of a player's distance will be counted. Although players should not necessarily go slow, it's important to keep these numbers in mind when playing.
One of the useful tricks for this is to be a passenger in a vehicle. And by vehicle, it does not necessarily have to be a car. A bus, train, or bicycle would work as a good substitute. This will give players a chance to catch some of the slower speeds the vehicles go. So when a car, bus, or train comes to a stop, the slower speed distance will count. And these little numbers can definitely add up.
It's also worth noting that Pokemon Go! only measures distances in straight lines. This means that to get maximum distance, players should travel in straight lines, too. It is believed that Pokemon Go! also records distance more frequently. It is estimated that Pokemon Go! will save distance somewhere between one to four times a minute. This means that, theoretically, players could change directions after a minute or so and still obtain good distance results.
Adventure Sync in Pokemon Go!
If players have not used this feature yet, it's time to set it up! Adventure sync is an extremely helpful tool that was added to Pokemon Go! It encourages players to keep walking and, even when the App isn't open, will track a player's distance walked.
This new tool is essential for Pokemon Go! players. The distance recorded after Adventure Sync is turned on also counts towards hatching those sweet little Pokemon eggs. There is no longer a need to have the App open and draining your battery when walking. Just turn on Adventure Sync and start walking. All those steps will bring you one step closer to a newly hatched Pokemon.
Pokemon Go!'s Lucky Eggs
One last thing worth noting is using Lucky Eggs when hatching Pokemon eggs. When an egg is getting close to hatching (or, if you have a few incubators that are all timed to hatch close together), it may be a wise idea to drop a Lucky Egg. This way, for every egg hatched, players will get double XP for a short period of time.
Lucky Eggs have a 30-minute window where a player's experience is doubled. Hatching a 2 KM egg will give players a 200 XP, a 5 KM egg will give 500 XP, and a 10 KM egg will give 1000 XP. If a player manages to drop a Lucky Egg before hatching, these experience points easily double. On top of a Double XP event, players can easily garner a mass amount of XP in a quick period of time, along with new Pokemon and hatching eggs.
