Niantic has begun teasing a couple of new Pokémon that will be added to Pokémon GO this Halloween, and players are rightfully hyped: Galarian forms of ghost-types Yamask and Runerigus are on their way. While Unovan Yamask was added to Pokémon GO last Halloween along with its evolution Cofagrigus, this Halloween season adds Yamask's Galarian relatives into the mobile game mix.

Pokémon GO holds a Halloween event every year and it is hailed as one of the largest in-game events, second only to GO Fest. The yearly event adds new Pokémon to the game and offers a variety of challenges for trainers to take part in. Some of the details for this year's Halloween event have already leaked including the addition of special Halloween-themed gift boxes, new player cosmetics, and a Sableye variant wearing a costume.

The addition of Runerigus was also leaked according to dataminers, and now Pokémon GO has confirmed that the Galar ghost-types will make their mobile game debut this Halloween. The official Pokémon GO Twitter posted a teaser video of Galarian Yamask's silhouette with the caption "Guess Who?" An obvious missed opportunity to use the iconic catchphrase "Who's that Pokémon?" Regardless, the arrival of Galarian Yamask confirms the leaks that Runerigus will also arrive in Pokémon GO this Halloween.

Galarian Yamask and Runerigus were introduced in Gen 8 of the mainline Pokémon games otherwise known as Pokémon: Sword & Shield. Runerigus is a unique evolution as the method of evolving Galarian Yamask requires players to walk under a specific stone archway after Yamask has taken a certain amount of damage in battle. While players can't freely control their avatars in Pokémon GO, it will be interesting to see if Niantic adds a unique method of evolving Galarian Yamask or if they will keep it simple and have Yamask evolve through the use of candies. Trainers will also have the opportunity to catch shadow Runerigus via battling with Team Go Rocket grunts.

The addition of new Pokémon in Pokémon GO is always exciting as it gives trainers something new to hunt. While the shiny variants won't be available until later, trainers will need to catch a lot of Yamask if they want to evolve it into a Runerigus. There is a lot more to come to Pokémon GO this Halloween, and Yamask and Runerigus are just the start of this year's spooky activities. Niantic didn't reveal when Galarian Yamask will make its debut in Pokémon GO, but it'll be within the next couple of weeks to kick off Halloween.
