Trainers looking to find and capture Armored Mewtwo in Pokémon Go will need to create some friendships. In Pokémon Go, many of the legendary Pokémon are released through the game's Raid Battle mechanic. With this, players can work together to battle against a single target. Once this target is defeated, the game offers trainers the chance to capture the Pokémon. For those who are incredibly lucky, this Pokémon might even have the chance to appear in its Shiny form. Occasionally, Pokémon Go will have tie-in events to help promote other Pokémon-related products from either their live-action or animation departments.

Armored Mewtwo was originally released in Pokémon Go as a special promotional event to push the new Pokémon Netflix film. Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is a full remake of the first-ever Pokémon film. In Pokémon Go, trainers were able to battle Armored Mewtwo in five-star raid battles. The Armored variant of Mewtwo has an exclusive design that has never been used in any of the mainline titles.

Since Armored Mewtwo was only available in Pokémon Go as part of an event to promote a film, it was the only time it has ever appeared in five-star raid battles. The only way to obtain one in the game now is to trade with another player who already has it. While it is common for legendary Pokémon to return to Raid Battles after a few months or years, it's unlikely Armored Mewtwo will make a return. Its initial release was to promote a new film. Now that the film is out and has been available for a while, there's no reason for Niantic to add it back into the game. Armored Mewtwo will likely return to the game if it makes a return in any other Pokémon medium like the anime or films.

Trading For Armored Mewtwo in Pokémon Go

Armored Mewtwo in Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution

Since Armored Mewtwo is a legendary Pokémon, it will take a Special Trade in order to complete the transaction. Special Trades are only available to players once per day, and Pokémon that are considered legendary, mythical, or Shiny will claim this Special Trade. Not only that but legendary Pokémon cost tons of Stardust to trade. Fortunately, there are tons of different ways to get more Stardust in Pokémon Go.

Although, both the normal and Armored versions of Mewtwo fundamentally function the same, the only real difference between the two is Armored Mewtwo's unique design. The normal version of Mewtwo has appeared in Raid Battles several times throughout the years. It's common for them to return during special in-game events. As for the Armored versions, trainers are mainly seeking these out for their rarity.
