The Pokémon GO team has begun preparing trainers for the start of the new "Season of GO" event to kick off the summer.  Along with the new season, the upcoming Pokémon GO Fest 2022 will feature many new features and opportunities for players to catch rare new Pokémon. The celebration was announced in March and will feature a fan-favorite legendary Pokémon that has never before been available to obtain.

Ever since the Go Beyond update in December 2020, Pokémon GO has featured three-month-long in-game seasons that correspond with the four real-world seasons. Currently, players are experiencing the "Season of Alola", which features Pokémon from the Sun and Moon games. But now the season is closing out with the "Alola to Alola" event, which gives trainers new challenges and Alolan Pokémon to catch and goes on until the end of the season.

Pokémon GO shared its June content update that the Season of GO will officially start on June 1 and continue through August. The season will have a variety of community days and events for players to enjoy, including the upcoming Pokémon GO fest 2022. The Pokémon GO festival will be held on June 4 and 5, featuring Shaymin, the legendary grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation 4 and announced back in March. This is a big deal, considering that Shaymin has never been featured as a catchable Pokémon in the game before. The legendary gratitude Pokémon will be available in its Land Forme through special research tasks, but only to players who purchase event tickets.

Ticket holders will also have special access to other bonuses and features, such as an increased chance to encounter shiny Pokémon and new collection challenges themed around four different habitats: city, plains, rainforests, and tundras. Players without tickets will still be able to take advantage of other event features, including the chance to encounter shiny versions of Axew, Shroomish, Numel, Karrablast, and Shelmet for the first time. Special Pokémon will also be featured during raids, such as legendary favorites Groudon and Kyogre and a costumed Pikachu wearing flowers on its head.

Like most of the previous years, the festival will be virtual but will also include in-person events in Berlin, Sapporo, and Seattle that promise a unique community experience with fun activities. Pokémon GO has always been proactive with large, social events such as these, always introducing reasons to keep fans excited for the future. The recent announcement of the new Pokémon GO Campfire companion app also marks an effort by developer Niantic to strengthen the already impressive community that Pokémon GO has gathered over the years.
