Players trying to catch Ditto in Pokémon GO will have to look a little harder, as the shape-shifting Pokémon has been updated with many new disguises in the mobile game. In June, Niantic celebrated its upcoming collaboration with the Pokémon Trading Card Game with the launch of the Pokémon GO TCG crossover event. Because Ditto is heavily featured in the July Pokémon card crossover, the special TCG-themed celebration featured the much-anticipated refresh update for Ditto's new disguises in Pokémon GO.

When Pokémon GO originally made its debut in July 2016, Ditto was the only non-legendary Kanto Pokémon that was missing from the game's launch. The Normal-type was eventually added four months later and released with the unique transform mechanic which allowed it to disguise itself as other wild Pokémon on the map. Adding to the challenge of tracking down the Gen 1 Pokémon, Niantic updates Ditto's Pokémon GO disguises every few months.

Below is a list of all the Pokémon that Ditto can currently disguise itself as in Pokémon GO.

While Ditto has many returning disguises such as Ekans and Dwebble, the Pokémon GO TCG crossover event added Spinarak, Numel, and Bidoof into the roster of Pokémon it can now hide as. As of July 2022, there will now be eleven Pokémon that players can find that can turn into a Ditto. Trainers will also be able to catch a Pokémon GO Kanto Tour Shiny Ditto, as it's now been moved from Special Research to a wild spawn. Players worried about finding a Shiny Pokémon only for it to be disguised as the Gen 1 shapeshifter have no worries, as Ditto currently only hides as non-Shiny Pokémon.

How To Catch Ditto In Pokémon GO

Pokemon GO Ditto Disguises July 2022 How to Catch

Because Ditto hides as other Pokémon in Pokémon GO, the Gen 1 Normal-type is pretty challenging to find on the overworld map. The easiest way to catch Ditto is to wait for one of the three Pokémon GO events held every month and to look for any of the Pokémon Ditto likes to disguise itself with. Since events have higher spawn rates trainers will have much better odds of running into the Kanto Pokémon. Players can further increase their chances by using Pokémon GO Incense items which can be bought in the app's in-game store for 40 Poké Coins.

Pokémon GO players should also take advantage of the game's Nearby Pokémon feature. In the bottom right-hand corner of the map, players can see the Pokémon that have recently spawned nearby. Trainers should constantly be checking the feature to see if any of Ditto's disguise Pokémon show up. While it's not a guarantee, it's always worth catching one of the eleven Pokémon that Ditto disguises itself with, as it's impossible to tell when the Normal-type has spawned on the map. The only way to find the Gen 1 Pokémon Red and Blue Kanto shape-shifter is to catch other Pokémon and wait for the infamous "Oh?" message to pop up on the screen. Pokémon GO players determined to track down the Kanto Pokémon will eventually find the Normal-type as long as they continue to keep up with Ditto's current disguises.
