Dewgong has been actively appearing in Pokémon Go raid battles as it's all part of the current Power Plant event in the game. Gym Leader Spark is on the verge of unlocking the Mysterious Door of the Season of Heritage. This event directly leads to February's Johto Tour event, a two-day event where every Pokémon from the Johto region will have their Shiny forms added to the game. Not only that, but the Power Plant even is heavily focused on Electric-type Pokémon, introducing Heliolisk and Helioptile to the game for the first time.

The Power Plant event in Pokémon Go is active from Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. local time. Although, Dewgong will only appear for the second half of the event. It will appear in three-star raid battles from Monday, January 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. local time. It's important to mention that while Shiny Dewgong is in the game, it will not appear Shiny in raid battles. Instead, trainers will need to find a Shiny Seel and evolve it to a Shiny Dewgong.

To defeat Dewgong in a raid battle, trainers will first need a Pokémon Go remote raid pass. This item allows trainers to participate in raid battles from a far-off distance. While it is possible to do this with a regular raid pass, Niantic is giving them away in the shop for one PokéCoin. They do this once per week so grab them while they are available. Since Dewgong is a Water and Ice-type Pokémon, it has weaknesses in Fighting-, Rock-, Grass-, and Electric-type moves. Therefore, these are the best Pokémon to counter it.

The Best Dewgong Raid Counters in Pokémon Go

Pokémon GO's Biggest Changes Since Launch Raid Trainer Battle Team Rocket
  • Lucario: Counter and Aura Sphere.
  • Rampardos: Smack Down and Rock Slide.
  • Conkeldurr: Counter and Dynamic Punch.
  • Electivire: Thunder Shock and Wild Charge.
  • Machamp: Counter and Dynamic Punch.
  • Rhyperior: Smack Down and Rock Wrecker.
  • Magnezone: Spark and Wild Charge.
  • Luxray: Spark and Wild Charge.
  • Roserade: Razor Leaf and Grass Knot.
  • Breloom: Counter and Dynamic Punch.

Since this is a three-star raid battle in Pokémon Go, trainers should team up with at least one other player. With any fewer players, the raid might run out of the timer, and as a result, the player will lose the battle. The game also doesn't give back the remote raid pass either, regardless of win or lose. Once it's gone, the player will need to find another one. Overall, Dewgong is fairly common, and it's likely many already have one in their collection. This is a great chance to catch it for those players who jumped in after the initial 2016 hype.
